The reason it gives for its delay is that it didn’t think the speech worth the space. For a republican paper the Tribune is rather sassy to the author of the Chicago platform. Blaine pictures the workingman as living upon sirloin roasts and porter house steaks. There will be an im mediate rush of everybody in this part of the country to become a labor ing man in some protected industry, and for the benefit of our readers we suggest that the new cotton factory will soon be needing hands. With two men murdered in West Virginia for hurrahing for Cleveland, two Democratic candidates buckshot ted in Texas and several Democratic election Judges ambnsbed iD Arkan sas, life is becoming very uncertain for Democrats in the South. Can* not the President induce Bill Chan dlertocall out the troops for our protection? The Macon Telegraph says: “The New York Associated Press reporter who preparod the account of the big democratic rally of Thurs The day night is a daisy. He informed country that exsGorernor Black bum, of Kentucky, was one of the speakers. If any eartuly interest could call the good man from bis grave, we believe the cause of the democracy would do it, but he is probably satisfied with the way the campaign in progressing/’ In reporting Thurman’s recovery the next day,the same reporter repeat eel an eighth of a column three timer. The Associated Press throughout is bunglesome, commonplace, parti san and generally ruo by an inferior class of Republicans. The News hopes soon to relievo its readers of the necessity of depending upon such a medium for information of the world’s doings. fc- Tfe ' cases were seventy new cases and eight deaths, the total number of cases at that time being 504 and deaths sixty. What yesterday developed is not known at this writing-, but all tenden cies for some time will be toward in creasing the epidemic in a fearful ratio. The suffering in the desolated city can not be described, The one in¬ stance of a family of half a dozen mem bers being found dead in a house by the way side while attempting to es^ cape, is but a single group in the awful picture of the carnival of death in the centre of which dances the hor rible phantom of Yellow Jack. At first bravely believing in her ability to cope with a disease that did not seem to come in epidemic form, Jacksonville refused all aid But now, with resources exhausted, business stricken down and the city partially abandoned, want has stalk ed in where disease made an entrance, and the people are suffering for the necessaries that they can not earn, while the fever racked patients lack medicines and nurses. The churches of Griffin represent the best elements of the community and voice its noblest feelings and as pirations. Here the people will meet today voluntarily, without the nece3 sity of a call that would bo neglected by most. The News would sug gestthatat each church a collection be taken up for the sufferers at Jack sonville, and let every Onego prepar ed to contribute. If caught without money, we believe that many a one would drop in a due bill payable on the morrow who does not usually oare so much to contribute to un known heathen, to ctauroh decorations or to an organ lurid. In no way could the church be bet ter used. Inasmuch as it is more blessed to give than to receive, every member contributing would add one more jewel to the crown allotted to those who have helped to alleviate suffering that is said to be almost as intense as that borne by Christ upon Calvary. Our sermon is preached. “Let your light so shine.” The following bet is said to have been made in Findlay, Ohio, a few days ago: *1,000 that Cleveland would be elected, *1,000 that Cleve¬ land would carry Ohio, and *1,000 that Cleveland would carry Indiana. The Democratic better is sure of win rung *1,000 and has chance of win ning *3,000. Judge Thurman is ail right, and re covered very completely on Friday from hie attack ol Thursday nigh;.
