The mo.it enjoyable dance of the
season was held at the Grey’s armory
last evening, complimentary to Miss
Lollie Markham, of Atlanta. The

Tax Ordinance For The
Year 1888.
Be it ordained bv the Mayor and Conncil
of the city of Griffin, and it is hereby ordain
ed by authority of the sam6. of 2C cents be and
Section 1, That the sum

every one hundred dollars of real ostate with

valuation of all stock in trade, horses aud
mules and other animals, musical instru¬
ments, furniture, watches, jewelry, wagons, de¬
drays and all pleasure vehicles of every
scription, money and solvent debts, includ¬
ing notes, bonds and all other evidences of
debt except bonds of the city Griffin and up
on all other class of personal capital used property, for bank in¬
cluding bank stoek and
in"- purposes in the City of Griffin on the 1st
day of April, 1888. And aflike tax upon all
property of every description held by any
one as guardian, agent, executor or adminis¬
trator, or in any other fiduciary relation in¬
cluding that held by non residents, to defray
the aurrent expenses of the city government.
Sec. 2, That the sum of 55 cents be and the
same is hereby imposed on each and every
one hundred dollars valuation of real and
personal property of all descriptions as stat¬
ed in Section 1st of this Ordinance, within
the corporate limits of the city of Griffin, for
the payment of the public debt of the city.
Sec. 3, That the sum of 25 cents be and
the same Is hereby imposed on each and ev
cry one hundred dollars valuation of real and
personal property of all descriptions stated
in Sec. 1st of this Ordinance within the cor¬
porate limits of the Oity of Griffin for the
maintainance of a system of public schools
in the city. The funds raised under this
Section not to be appropriated for any
other purpose whatever.
Sec. 4, That any person failing to make re¬
turn of taxable property as herein provided be
in Sees. 1, 2 and 3 of this Ordinance shall
doubled taxed as provided by the laws of this
State, and the Clerk and Treasurer shall is¬
