Bailey, Jr., from the Odd Fellows, accompanied the remains of Rev. Mr. Brittain to Celnm bus. J. E. Barham died yesterday morning atl o'clock at the old home stead Id Luella, of paralysis, at the ripe old age of 78 years. She will be buried today at the family burying ground in Luella. Miss Lollie M uk i one of Atlanta’s charming daughters, to the regret of her many friends returned to Atlanta yester day. Her departure has caused more than one of Griffin’s young men to wear a woe-begono expression upon Ins coun tenanee. Brittain, late of Columbus, but for the last twelve months a resident cjf this city died at his home yesterday morning, Ho was a member of the Odd Fellows and also tho Red Men. The body was escorted to the depot by representa tives of both lodges. His remains wera convoyed to Columbus and interred in the ‘cemetery of that city. The mem bers of both ledges were very attentive to him during his illness and sadly mourn his loss. He died of con sump tion. An Old Citizen Dies. At his home, yesterday, four miles Irom Griffiu, Mr. Charles Hammond, fumiliarlyjknowu as ‘‘Uncle Charley” passed quietly away. For some months past Mr. Hammond has been far from well, suffering from a com¬ plication of diseases, which were ren dered the more desperate, by his ex¬ treme old age. Yesterday afternoon his soul weary of its bodily sufferings took its flight and today numerous relatives and friends mourn his de¬ mise. “Uncle Charley” was born in South Carolina July 10th, 1703, and was 95 years old at the time of his death. In 1727 when Griffin was but a trading post for the Indians, he left his Caro litia home and settled at his point. For over sixty years he has made this his home and though a man of many peculiarities has always numbered his friends by the score. He will be buried from his late home this morn ing. Sec. 2, It shall be the duty of this commit¬ tee to take in charge the sanitary affairs of the city, to pass such rales and regulations, with the concurrence of the Council as they may deem necessary for the protection of the health of the city. To abate all nuisan¬ ces likely to be injurious to health. To pro¬ vide necessary hospital accommodations in case an outbreak of oontagious or infectious disease in the eity should occur, and to pro vide against the introduction of the same in the city. Sec. 3, The committee shall have author¬ ity to arrest and bind over to the city court for trial force all violators of the hereafter sanitary adopt¬ laws now in or that may be ed by the city council of Griffin and said committee. Sec. 4, Said committee shall hive control of the police force and of the street overseer and hands so far as may be necesary to en¬ force the orders and instructions of said com¬ mittee this pertaining ordinance. to the proper enforcement of O.
