Savannah cotton factories have organized a pool tj fight the cotton bagging trust by importing covering of last year’p cotton and using it in place of syndicate bagging. Samples of new covering have been secured and the plan is pronounced practicable. Since the organization of the pool, syndi cate bagging lias been offered at l i to }4 cents less than quotations. A. D. L. Marr, while reparing Dr. E. R. C. B. Bostwick, of Double Cabins, broaght into our office yesterday n few bolls of cot ton of the early and late crops. In onr exam inations of these we find that the early crop has been injured to a great extent on ac¬ count of the recent rains. It is estimated- t hat at least one-fifth of the crop will be a total loss. The late crop, however, as yet has not been injured to amount to J any¬ thing. It is to be hoped that the rain will soon cease and give the farmers a chance to gather the crops that so long have been at its mercy. Be It ordained by the Mayor and Council of the city of Griffin, and it is hereby ordain ed by authority of the same. of 20 cents be and Section 1, That the sum and the same is hereby imposed on each every one hundred_dollars of real ostate with in the corporate limits of the city of Gr iffin and on each and every one hundred dollars valuation of all stock in trade, horses and mules and other animals, musical instru¬ ments, furniture, watches, jewelry, of wagons, de¬ drays and all pleasure vehicles every scription, money and solvent debts, includ¬ ing notes, bonds and all other evidences debt except bonds of the city Griffin and up on all other class of personal used property, for bank in¬ cluding bank stock and capital Griffin the 1st ing purposes in the City of on day of April, 1888.
