Eobt. D. Ochiltree, J. P. of Brualiey,
was notified by Louis Bark’ey the other
day not to issue license to anyone to mar
ry Iiisdaughter, ^‘.iting that she was too
young to mar being only fourteen
years old. lie .1 he thought that it
was Iho iutentiou of a young man aged
sixteen, who had been payiDg her consid
erable attention, to apply for license for
their marriage. Sure enough as was sus
peeled the young conple made their ap
pearcnce and demanded license. It was
refused them, however, and it is presum
ed they managed to got their license
elsewhere.
Tho following items is going the
rounds of the press. The young lady
in question will need two or three amen
uensis if she answers all the letters she
gets from yor g men who are looking
for a soft th ug. A young lady stepped
into an employment office in Seattle
and said she was the owner of 160 acres
of good farming land in Snohomish
county, w'th s'-.ty acre3 cleared. She
said she l ad a’so a small sum of
money, and her object was lo sc euro a
husband who would work the farm and
make her a good consort. She left her
adress with tho agent, and solicits corres
pondence from any one who wishes to
secure a steady silnaUon and a home.

George Scherer !' ’ 1 a speci
rare
men of tho sp 'men of the serpent
tribe y inlay, Many people have
never g ven any cref’t 1 1 the report
that there was such a sei peat as the horn
,".l or hoop snake. Mr. Scherer says
that this is a genuine specimen and tnat
the curious kntics of this little reptile
attracted his attention and caused him
to resolve to capture it, if possible alive.
Ia this he was not successful, for never
having seen one of these species before
he though perhaps it would be better
to ’ ’’1 it for fear he nffght get stung
by it. When his attention was fi-st cal
led to it the little serpent had coiled it
self up in the shapo of a hoop and was
maF'ngits eseade at a very rapid rate.
He picked up a stick and k'Ucd it. It
measured about twelvo inches. On the
end of it3 tail ia a little prong that is
a' 1 most as sharp a s the point of needle.
Its head is ve y small indeed compared
with the size of its body, Mr. Scherer
has it hung up iu front of Scherer and
Brausss’ bar for public inspection.
Delayed Freights,
As many arc aware, there has been
several washouts on the Central be*
tween Macon and Savannah. On ac
count of this a great many me
chants, who have been expecting
their goods that were to reach them
this line, have complained some
what at their detention. In order to
the facts in regard to the mat
ter, J, L- Reid, freight and ^passen-
agent of the Central, was inter
viewed and furnished us the follow¬
information: He said that for the
ten days trains bad been delayed
account of these washouts and
that the rai' oad officials had done all
their power to rebuild the roads,
the rain came in such overwhelm
torrents that it completely resis
all efforts toward its completion.
said, however, he hoped soon to
able to announce to the public’the
news of the successful re¬
of the roads. He thinks
tho trains will be in succe.sful
by to-day and that all
detained on this account would
in the city soon. This is good
to the merchants and will iheer
up considerably.
A STREET RAILWAY.
THE LATEST PBOJECT FOR GRIF¬
FIN’S ADYANCEMENT,
A Charter to lie Applied for at the Next
Session of the Legislature--
“Fare, Please!”
The coming legislature will be no
titled in a few days that a Griffin
Oiropany proposes to apply to its
honorable body for a charter* to con
struct and operate a street railway
over and upon the streets of Griffin.
The route of this street railroad
as at present contemplated will bo
about as follows:
Starting in front of B. “R. Blake
ly’s residence on North Hill street,
running thence south to Poplar
street, following Poplar street west
to Tenth street, thence north one
square to Taylor street, thence west
on Taylor street to Thirteenth
street, thence north to the Griffiu fac
tory, thence east to Tenth street,
thence south on Tentn street to Tay
lor streat aud returning on Taylor
street to the main line on Hill styeet.
This plan is, of course, subject to
modification and expansion.
A company with responsible and
wealthy citizens is now beiDg form
ed for this project, though they do
not care to have their names pub
lished until a little later.
The cost of the project is not very
large, being placed at about $10,000.
Rapid and cheap transit is one of
the best means to facilitate business,
and there is no reason why a street
car line should .not pay in Griffin
with the magnificent distances in
eluded in a circumference of over
six miles,
Griffin stands toward improve
ments as a street car does toward
passengers—there is always room
for one more. Ring „tbe bell to go
