Apprlclative Michiganders.
Commisioner Glesner write3 as fot
Iowa in the Americus Recorder:
Nowhere have I seen people more
appreciative of the exhibit than these
Michigan farmers. They are an in
telligent class, and as they looked
over our fruit, grain and vegtables
they were quick to recognize the
fact that Georgia must in a few years
be a formidable competitor in the
makets, especially as in fruits an veg
etables it has the advantage of an
earlier growth and maturity. Dako
ta and Minnesota have already deduc
ed the price of their great staple,
wheat, until the greater portion of
profit has gone, and now if the South
is to come into competition with
them in fruits and vegtables it will
bo hard to make a living per centage
on farming iuvesments, with land at
$75 to $100 per acre. Many came
to me for full explication as to the
character and price of our land- and
expressed themselves as satisfied
that Georgia was the coming State,
and they desired to sbaro in its pios
perity. Quite c number of people
from this section went to California
a couple of years ago, iu search of a
milder climate; but the speculative
prices at which land is held in that
State has disgusted them with it is
a faming oountry. With a thorough
advertisement of Georgia's resource a
and cheap lands, I know of no more
promising field in which to work
than Michigan, and i am satisfied
that the Georgia Exhibits has done
a big pioneer work.
The attendance on Wednesday and
Thursday was yery large—that on
the latter day being estimated
at 25,000—so that i think not less
than 40,000 people marched through
Georgia daring the past week. I be
lieve that during the entire trip the
exhibits will have been seen by 150,
000 people and Georgia's resources
and advantages been called to their
attention.
