Goodyear, Cook A Dillon’s Refined
Minstrels,
The Nashville American of last Tuesday
gave the following most flattering notice to
this organization alter their visit to that city:
“It must be said, without anything of dorog
atory nature being meant, that the appear¬
ance of Goodyear, Cook A Dillon’s “refined
minstrels’’ at the Grand Opera house
last night was n triumph for them—a
success in every particular. The favorite
“old honsc” was fall; ia fact, it was full
from dress cirolc to gallery, and it was not
only a fine audience of ladies and gentle¬
men, but it was an appreciative one, discrim¬
inating and ready to distinguish the good
acts from the bad. There were no bad acts.
With the exception of laek of strengh in the
choruses, this company is by all odds the best
minstrel company that has come to Nash¬
ville this season.
“W. 8. Pollard, the interlocutor, filled
that position with honor, but his truly great
basso profundo voice in “Rocked in the
Cradle of the Deep" was immense. Harry
Green in the baritone solo, “The Song that
Reach ed My Heart” won a well merited en
core. The Leach brothers, A1 and Byron;
the Dillon brothers; Ellsworth Cook, the
wonderful male soprano—all of these people
were most extraerdinarily clever. Charley
Goodyear is certainly a great end comedian,
nnd he brought down the house in his vocal
medley of “Kutehy, Kutohy, Coo.’’ And
here was Geo. Edwards, tho funny rascal; he
made the people fairly howl with his funny
oddities. Thorne is e fine juggler; Polley
A Yonder remind one of McNish, but still
they are good; while the Leach Brothers do
a banjo musical turn that is worthy of great
praise. The clog dancers were also a clever
quartette; the rehearsal in the woods was
pleasing and the wir.d-up farce was entertain
ing enough to hold.tb^audience until the cur
tain went down."

A Card from Mr. Carry,
Edit on News Allow me to sav that the
account of the difficulty between myself and
the Brown boys, which appeared in the
Weekly News of the 14tli inst. was very dis-
torted and almost wholly false as given you
by your informant. I did have some little
trouble, but it was not of my own causing
and not at all of the gjiaracter described.
As to the facts in the case, I prefer to let the
following certificate speak for itself.
Very truly,
Frank Z. Cirry.
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
IVe, the undersigned, do hereby certify to
the best of our knowledge and belief that
Frank Z. Curry did not go in\^> iX any store
where the Brown boys were, stated, but
that the Brown boys came into the store
where he was, and that the difficulty did not
arise out of a discussion ooniorniog the pol¬
itics of Henry county. And we further
certify that Mr. Curry was not the instiga¬
tor of the difficulty, but acted wholly on
th# defensive, and that no weapon of any
kind was used by him-
We also certify that wc were eye-witnesses
to the difficulty, and as the News states it^
only one trustful idea is conveyed, viz ; that
there was a difficulty between the Brown
boys and Mr. Carry, aad as witnesses to the
difficulty, we make this certificate in jus¬
tice to Mr. Curry, knowing that he was
wholly blameless, and needs not censure at
the hands of any one.
Hoping that the above may suffice to cor¬
rect any wrong impression that may have
been conveyed from the slate— ent as pub¬
lished in News, we arc
Yours truly,
John Tcrnirseed,
