The Cotton Market.
The grado of Cotton has improv
ed greatly during the last week, al
though much of it still retains the
blue tinge or yellow stains of storm
cotton. In another week this will
have disappeared and we shall see
-somo flue cotton in the market. It
is rolling in at a lively rate now.
The price remains very steady at
9^ cents. Atlanta quotations are an
eighth above this, but her classifies
tion is ranch higher, and the same
cotton will really bring more here
than it will there.
Griffin can not be surpassed as a
cotton market by any place in Geor
gia.

HARMONY IN TIKE AT LAST,
A Grand Ratification Meeting at
Ion Wednesday.
According to a csllj the anti wing
of the Democratic party of Pike met
in good numbers at Zebulon on
Wednesday, 26th inst.
The meeting was organized by
electing Judge Nichols to the chair
and Wm. Howard secretary. The
chairman said that he did not under¬
stand ihe object of the meeting, and
there was an immediate call for Col.
Redding, of Barnesville,' who re¬
sponded in an eloquent and soundly
democratic speech. He said that he
was now, had been and ever would be
an anti-prohibitionist, had^voted for
Gardner and Madden for tbe legisla¬
ture and in tbe primary ; but be re»
garded the question as settled and
the paramount consideration now
is the uuity of the Democratic party.
He was followed by Hon, J. E,
Gardner in the same straiD, stating
that whether defeated by illegal
votes or not he had rather suffer da
feat than jeopardize the success of
the Democratic party, that he would
vote for Mitchell and Means and ad
vised his followers to do likewise,
Hon. J. F. Madden made a short
speech endorsing all that his col
league had said, an^Col. Woodward,
of Barnesville, made a brief response
to t call.
Thus the meeting healed the
breach and solidified the Democ
racy of old Pike. Now let the vofers
turn out in force next Wednesday
aad elect the nominees of the whole
party.
