SPALDING DEMOCRACY.
Spalding county has had a rather
erratic poliiifal reco; J ia the past,
but we tbfnk'ihis should no longer
be held against us. It used to be
said that there was no counting upon
Spalding; but it has been a good
many years sihee she baa sent a Re
publican or an independent to the
legislature, and we do not know when
one has been elected to a county of
fice. In 1880 the vote of the coun¬
ty had a majority for Garfield, but in
1884 it was carried by President
Cleveland and Congressman Ham¬
mond. Last Wednesday Governor
Gordon had Oil) majority against the
solid Republican vote of the county,
while Senator Hal! and Representa
tive Collet’* were elected by larger
majorities. In the November elec
tion there is no doubt that Stewart
and Cleveland will carry the county
by handsome majorities.
Spalding is one of the most solid
Democratic counties in the State.
Harper’s Weekly closes its review
of the present aspect of the Presiden
tial canvass with this statement of
the situation.‘‘It isobvioua tuat boast
ing on either sido as to (ho general
result in the country is ridicnlonB,
while the betting, we believe, is favor
able to Mr. Cleveland. This gener
ation of voters has not heard be
fore the arguments against an im¬
moderate and unjust tariff tax. In
deed, it has not clearly comprehend
ed that the tariff is a tax; but it is evi
dently inclined to listen intelligent
Jy and sympathetically, and to sr-o
that those who arc denounced as
seeking the ruin of the country by
proposing to diminish the surplus
by lightening taxation are doin'gonly
what the denouncers themselves ad
vocated a few years ago. It sees
that tbo Rspublican Sonato is pro
sot ing to do what the Republican
platform condemns, amt laughs at
tho effort to stigmatize as a ‘rebel’
policy, a coarse which Presidents
Grant and Garfield and Arthur and
the anti-slavery fathors of tho Repub
lican party approved, and which rests
upon the fundamental American
principle of equal rights. The long
rrned moro Beaching and detailed
tho discussion, tho surer will bo the
approval of the original American
\iow.of the tariff,which is substantial
that of tho President’s message
and letter. ’
A correspondent telegraphs that
everything is growing brighter in
New York for the Democrats* while
at Republican Headquarters there is
a stoim browing. John G. Now has
gone to Indiana filled with disgust,
and tho friends of Mr. Blaine are
complaining that tho methods of
Chairman Quay “smack too much of
Pennsylvania politics as developed
by himself, for the National cam
paign." Altogether, tho outlook is
cheering for the people, and depress
ing for the trust and tariffgang.

often when other medicines have failed, has

« My daughter Mary was afflicted with scrof¬

old till she became six years of age. Lumps
formed In her neck, and one of them after
growing to the sire of a pigeon's egg, became

her Hood's Sarsaparilla, when the lump and
