HEATING l.li: RECORD And Healing Columbus Along the Geor¬ gia Midland When the Georgia Midland wa? built Columbus, having put a good pile of money into it, thought that all the ben efita should come that way; and Griffin, not being used to spreading along rail roads ranch, seemed inclined to yield tho point that it was useless to compete with the larger aud apparently tho busi ness end of the road, Tin schedules were mainly for tho convenience of Co lumbus, and people from this end of the line flocked there for (ho novelty of the thing. Cotton went that way, and Grit fin only got cotton as far out as Concord, and only 450 bales from there last year. But Griftiti has recovered her breath from the surprises of having a new' rail road nui through her best territory— aud everybody knows that in a fight or oot race the second wind is the best. It might seem rather fresh to claim any thing as our territory further than wo controlled before the Georgia Midland was built, with such a compelitor asJCo lumbus, but the tact remains that while our trade only extended in previous years to the Pine mountains, cotton is being shipped Ibis year from Raleigh, on the other side of tho mountains and much nearer Columbus than Griffin. Woodbury aud all intermediate points, as well as points beyond, are shipping and selling their cotton in this market and buying their supplies here, simply because it pays them best. Close com petition aud greater nearness to neigh boring large markets compel our cotton buyers to pay more and our merchants to sell lower than Columbus does, and tho planter is taking advantage of these circumstances. Tho highest price yesterday was given to T. JY. Dumas, of Liberty llill, who was given 9 3-10 cents for thiee bales of fine cotton weighing 579,503 and Oil pounds. The past week has been another good ouo iu the cotton history of Griffin, cul miuatiug on Friday and Saturday. Ni5 The receipts oa Friday were 439 bales and on Saturday 407 bales, making tho ] j grand total since September 1st yester 4,453 j bales. The geuernl market price day was 9 cents, closing weak ftt 8j, Get rid of that tired feeling Us quick as which pos¬ sible, Take Hood’s Sarsaparilla, gives strength, a good appetite, and health. A Bear Creates Some Excitement. N il. Woodward, who lives near McKib b-.n, in Butts county, says that a bear on whose neck n chain is fastened, ha* recently made several visits to nis place. When he made his last visit, which was last week, he choked a deg to death which belonged to a j negro who lived near by. The table for the occasion was about 40 feet in length and was spread with every luxury necessary to make it ex qnisitely attractive, appetizing and en joyable. Old Zebu Ion is shaking off the dust that lias so long beclouded it uud will soon rival Griffin, Atlanta, or any other city of Georgia.
