It does for authors What a dry goods shop does for shoppers and of the tho producer manufacturers, tho brings the goods to convenient notice of the consumer “The Authors' Ex uange" undertakes to r<«d, register and Carefully catalogue then all manuscripts lists sent to it. It presents of their ware* to pul uhlishers, from which they can ■meet need of of at certain tin heir material pleasure, or a publisher hem in cert can come to t look over the stock in trade. The editor of one of the magazines complains that he has sent to him every year over MX thousand manuscripts, of which he can use about ono hundred, and the Anthers' Exchange proposes to lessen > burden of dealing vrlth all I matter. On the other hand, authors ■ greatly their from ignorance of the best markets for wares, and that ignor¬ ance Is, In many rases, tho cause of fall- ttre and discouragement. The exchange undertakes to relieve tho author of tho labor of disposing of his wares, and at las* introduces an element of order in tho Confused business of literature. If a pub¬ lisher wants matter in tho future ho goes *o the shop where it is'kept, and buys or orders it. The author simply manufact¬ them ures certain to the retail literary dealer wares, to bo and sold consigns to the beet and most available customer. Connell, of West Pike, arriv iu .the city yesterday afternoon an order for a coffin for Wilson, who had been killed by W. Sullivan. Mr. Connell was on the ground at time of killing, although being at the moment was not ex an eye witness, ami from him get the following particulars: C. R. Wilson and bis sons, John Clark, and J. VV. Sullivan and Sullivan had been engaged Monday in endeavoring to set tbo old land lino between their about which there bad several years been contention, lit of d fTorontkiuds and a great of hard feeling between the par On yesterday they came togoth again for tho same purpose, a num of the loading citizons of the com being present. The spot was quarter or half a mile from Sulli mill, or Erin. Some words between the parties as to the location of tho land line, rising a bitter dispute, when four shots fired almost instantly. John fell to tho ground with a bill wound in bis forehead and a 6calp wound, while J- Sullivan stood six or eight feet with the smoking revolver in hand. Wilson as he fell dropped revolver from his left hand aud ex iu a minute or so. Clark Wil started toward Sullivan, but was off with a hatchot. C. It. started for his buggy as John bnt was stopped by Clark Sulli who pointed a pistol at him told him if he moved a step would bo killed. Connell up and told Clark Sullivan noj shoot, and bystanders interfering tragedy was over for the time. Gi Sullivan was at the mill at time of tho shooting, but came soon afterwards, as did Ed. 11am tnond and George Seymore, who were hunting in the neighborhood. those on the ground at the were J. W, Dunbar, W. R. '--Carreker, Dr. Owens others, so that an iaquest will probably develop pretty accurately the degree of the offense. J. W. Sullivan claims that John Wilson fired the first shot at him. The de was not of well balanced mind, having been to the asylum once or twice, from which he had just recent ly returned. It is feared by those who know the bitterness betweou the parties that further violence may ensue. Further information is to the ef feet that John Wilson was advancing upon Sullivan and snapping bis pis at him, and that all the witnesses make Sullivan clearly justifia ble. - ♦-- Hand’s Sarsaparilla cures oartarrh by ex imparity from the blood, which is the of the complaint, tins it atrial. 5 Horton's Minstrels. What promises to be an entertain ment worthy of the patronage of our families, is the one to be given evening at Patterson’s Hall by celebrated New Orleans Minstrels. The following is from tie Winston, N. 0., Twin City Daily, IS), ’88 : “A large audience the appearanc of Gorton’s Minstrels at Brown's Opera House last night, and about one hundred people were turned awry owing to the crowded state of galler ies. Quite a number of ladies were present, representing our best fami¬ lies, and it affords the reporter pleas ure to be able to state that not a word was said nor an act performed bring the blushes to their cheeks. It was a refined, first-class performance, and every one went away perfectly satisfied with the evening’s entertain ment. The Daily commends Gorton's Minstrels to theatre-going public as an organization worthy of their patronage.” To the Democratic Executive Comm ' tee of Spalding County. The Rcpubl can Plan to Beat Judge Stewart. Do you remember how Freeman beat Glenn ? That was some time back, and some of you may have forgotten ii. Well, Freeman kept pretty quiet until about the Sunday before elec¬ tion, and the Democrats did not sus pect any danger. Then he turned a hundred or so negro preachers loose, whom he had fully primed, and from every negro pulpit in the dis¬ trict came the proclamation to the sable audience to turn out and vote if they valued their lives, their wives and their freedom. Not knowing or not heeding this, the Democrats fail¬ ed to turn out on election day, and Hon. James R. Freeman, radical, be¬ came congressman from this dis¬ trict. It was a shrewd scheme—almost the only one that couid have suc¬ ceeded—and it worked well. This year it is going to be tried again; but it will fail because it has been discovered, aud because the present congressman is more wide awake j than Glenn and is a shrewder politi cian than Thomas, the present He publican candidate. it may surprise some people S know that there are two strong col ored clubs in this county, fully or¬ ganized and pledged to turn out ev ery Republican vote in the county at the coining election. Milton Allen, the chairman of the town club, can probably give you lurther and more accurate information. Negro preach¬ ers, paid by Thomas, have already delivered two or three addresses in this county and are acting in concert with those of other counties in the district. A Henry county orator was here Tuesday in consultation with his party. There is no doubt whatever that Thomas and bis friends are spend ing time and money with the hope of his election, and will poll a large vote, as their party always does in presidential years, when it can ap¬ peal most effectually to tfie parly prejudices and passions of the col ored voter. Rut their efforts have been discovered in time to frustrate them, and there is yet two weeks in which to labor to bring out the Dem ocratie votes. The district is round ly Democratic on a full vote, and ev ery Democrat should esteem it a priv ilege rather than a task to go to the polls and vote for the national ticket presented this year. It would neve'' do for the capital district of Georgia io go Repi blicau.
