At Oehluchnec. Thomas county,
Mrs. M. V.Chastain, who was doing
a general merchandise business, made
an assignment Oct. 29, lor the bene
fit of her creditors, to J. B. Reagan.

Recently lion. W. F. Sweat, of
Pierce county, had two fine cattle
killed by a falling tree. When found
they were abeut three feet apart, one
on each side of the log, with heads
buried underneatbfjthe weight of it,
W. B. White tells of a gourd vine
which is growing on the road to
Hickory Grove, Crawford county.
He says it has run a long distance up
an oak tree, and 25 feet above the
ground hang among the branches
about a dozen large gourds.
Two large land trades were con
sutnmated at Sandersville, Monday.
Dr. Rawlings bought the Richard
son tract 1,100 acres, from K. J. N.
Walden, and Mr. Walden became
purchaser of Judge J. T. Young
blood’s plantation, 1,800 acres.
M.J. Hunter, of Lovelace, ibis
year had in sugar cane just one
fourth of an acre. From this he has
already sold and pocketed $05 worth
of cane, has bedded enough stalks lo
plant two acres next year, and still
has enough on hand to run his sales
up to an even $100 when he disposes
of it.
Last Saturday James Pierce, of the
upper portion of Crawford county, in
attempting to rescue a child from
a mad dog, was severely bitten on
one of his hands. The dog had th*
child down and was trying to bite
the child on the body, but the boy's
thick clothing prevented the dog’s
teeth from entering the flesh. Mr.
Pierce went to Atlanta to be treated
for hydrophobia, almost immediately
after being bitten.
