Bridges gin house caught fire yesterday by a spark falling from the engine into some lint cotton, but was ex tinguished before any material damage was done. Miss Roxie Norton, of Creswell, and Mr. Geo. D, Parker, of Atlanta, were married on Sunday at the residence of 1 . 1 . Norton, Sr., the ceremony being performed by Rev. L. P. Neese, of Hampton. Dr. N. B. Drewry is suggested this morning as a suitable candidate for the legislature to fill the vacancy. Dr. Drewry has experience, has proven him self an able and hard working member, and we consider the suggestion an excel lent oae. E, H. Searcy made receiver for the Savannah Griffin and North Alabama railroad. He has worked hard to secure an injuno tion and we would like to see him honor ed.“ We desire to add our hearty en dorsement to the above, Mr. Searcy is a railroad man of some experience, is probably the largest minority stock holder and is well qualified in every way for the position. HADAWAY KILLS FRANK WILLINGHAM And Delivers Himself Up to the Sheriff —The Killing Evidently in Self Defense. Shortly after the four o’clock train came in .yesterday afternoon, John T. Hadaway, of Sunny Side, deliver¬ ed himself ip here to Sheriff Con¬ nell, having killed Frank Willing¬ ham. He was accompanied to town by many friends, some of whom had witnessed a part of the difficulty. The prisoner gave the following account of the unfortunate affair, whick was sustaiaed by G, W. Wood, a part witness. He had loaned Willingham at twelve o’clock a wagon to be used hall an hour. At two o’clock, the wagon not coming back and he having u»e for it himself, he went alter it aud found it standing fuil of seed cotton. He demanded the wagon of Willing¬ ham, when the latter, who was drunk, said it would require a double barrelled shot gun to get it. Ilada- way persisted in bis demand, upon Willingham sprang upon and knocked him down, he being crippled in one foot. Willingham said he would cut Hadaway’s throat and pro¬ ducing a large pocket knife he upon Hadaway while on the ground and was about to execute his when Hadaway drew a small barrel revolver and shot Willingham through the body. Tbe latter already inflicted a few slight upon iiadaway’s bead and chewed up one finger, and after the shot succeeded in getting away pistol and was about to Hanaway through tbe head but a negro took the revolver and Wood, who bad come up, took Willingham off his would bo victim. Willingham died in about fifteen minutes afterward. The deceased was a notoriously bad character, being a rowdy bully, drinking to excess and Jeering .ruiu. bis uis family. .»^i.j- While everybody * regrets tbe occurence, yet all eympatby seems to be with way.
