Au Answer to the yucstlon. "filial Con¬ stitutes a Successful Fanner?" Tho question may bo asked. What con stitutes a successful farmer? Different Individuals would give different answers. To ono farmer success means a con¬ stantly Increasing bank account; to an¬ other, farm improvement and improved farm buildings; but there are some men who do not seem to know what success means. According to American Rural Home, the successful farmer is not nec¬ essarily the man who raises the largest crops and sells them for the most money, or who has the direst stock ami farm buildings, or tho largest hank account, but ho who most benefits himself, his family nnd the world, from whatever position he may fill. A farmer may have wealth, lino cattle and barns, and still there tnav bo no sunshine in the home. The outside world will hxik on such a man and say: “There is a successful farmer; ho is making money: look at his stock and farm.” Yes, hut while his fields are fertile his home is ■ desert. The farmer, to be successful in life, must cultivate his mind as w ell as his land. He must remember that he is de¬ him. pendent upon others, as others are upon Ho must bring contentment, pa¬ tience and a home love into his work. Tho farmer must remember that lie is a citizen, and the citizen should be public spirited- havo reached A man is round sometimes said to the top in the ladder, but if lie has reached the top by pulling others down, who like himself wore climbing round by round, we can hardly call his effort a success. So i f the farmer has grown rich in lands and money by making him with others the successful poorer, we fanner. do not class Suc¬ cess in life means intelligence, brotherly love, honesty, public spirit, generos¬ ity and a desire to do right, not from mere policy, but (rom tlie heart.
