How to Make ft City Grow.
We are all anxious to make Griffin
grow, and it is encouraging to know
that it is growing. Still we would
like to have it grow faster, to see ev¬
erybody prosperous, and to see smil¬
ing faces and hear cheerful voices on
all sides. There are some things
which we should do to asafstln bring¬
ing about this desirable state of af¬
fairs. We should always have a good
word to say lor our city, whether we
are at home or away from home. We
shouldnoq’fear being called provincial
because our enthusiasm about our
home is plain to all observers. If a
man runs down the place where fie he
lives when among strangers, if un¬
derrates its growth and importance,
he reflects on himself, for he, along
with other inhabitants, has made it
what it Is. We hav4 morerespect for
the man who asserts that the village
of Squashtown is going to be a great
metropolis than for the man who
does not claim that a city of over six
thousand inhabitants, with factories
back of it, has a future
prejudiced spectacles. It is very
hard to please some men, and what¬
ever is done for the public good they
either look upon with suspicion, or
hold that it ought to have been done
differently. This class of men can
tell you what to do, but when

Which they make a livelihood. If
people can notfind articleshandsome
enough for them in Griffin they can
order them through Griffin dealers.
But generally speaking they can
find them if they try. Some do not
try. They forget that merchants
and dealers inGriffiaare jubt as good
judges of what is tasteful, beautiful,
useful, as they are, generally better,
for they have largerexperieuce. They
buy their stock of goods in larger
cities than orders are sent by the
class of people referred tb. ’ And they
could frequently supply them at
cheaper prices with the identical ar¬
ticles sent for. " i ■-
A most important point to note is
that if we wish a city to grow we
must ever take a stand in favor of
good order and morality. A city
that is peaceable and orderly, where
religion is respected, aid-Sunday
properly observed, that is the city
in which a man will wish to settle
with his family. Such a city is Griffin
at present. Let us seekto keep it so.
