One of the most important ques-
tions discussed at the annual con¬
vention of the diocese of Georgia last
week was as to whether or not the
delegates to the general convention
should be instructed as to how they
should vote on the proposition to
change the name of the Episcopal
church, which will come up before
that body.
This question had been made the
special order for Friday’s meeting
and it was expected that the decision
arrived at would be final, as the ques¬
tion has been agitating the conven¬
tion for several years past.
The matter was very exhaustively
discussed, and the final result was
the introduction of a resolution In¬
structing the-delegates to vote for a
change of name. But the resolution
was lost,consequently the delegation
will go uninstructed, and free to vote
as they see fit.
A change in the name oi the Pro¬
testant Episcopal chqrch has been
agitated for some time throughout
the entire country, and it is expected
that it will be disposed of by the next
general convention.
The proposition is to change the
name from the Protestant Episcopal
church to the Church of America, so
as to make the name conform to that
of the mother church, the Church of
England. * *
