„ May . Return to Georgia, at an Early
Day and See Judge, Speer About
That One Hundred Thous-
and Dollars. 1
The News and Sun readers have
ben kept advised with the different
stages o! the case against Major
Branch, the gentleman who is sup¬
posed to have $100,000 that Judge
Speer has ordered to be paid into his
court.
Major Branch, who has been an in¬
valid in Virginia almost ever since
the passage of the mandate of Jndge
Speer, is expected, so it is said, to
come back to Georgia before long.
Mr. J. B. Anderson, who was re¬
cently appointed by Judge Speer to
inquire into the state of the railroad
financier’s health, has returned from
Richmond to Savannah. He did not
see Major Branch, so it is reported,
but learned that the Major is not
confined to his room. Mr. Walter
Charlton and Mr. W. W. Mackall,
counsel for the United States Con¬
struction, Company, were also in
Richmond two or three days ago,
An agreement was reached by which
taking of evidence on Major
Branch's health was dispensed with.
