At the well in front of Davis’ hard¬
ware store there is now on exhibition
for two-or three days one of the best
pumps we have ever seen, both for
ordinary well purposes and for a
force pump. It is on an entirely new
plan, being u hollow piston plunge
pump, with water packed valves and
nothing to get out of order. Orders
can be filled * for pumps or county
rights will be sold. It is worthy the
examination of everybody.

W'hile on a blackberry hunt last
week some of Mr. W. T. Lyle’s chil¬
dren found a quilt out in a thick
patch of woods near town upon
which some one had been sleeping.
There was also an old goods box
near by which contained some plun¬
der. The children reported the find
and a party went down to investi¬
gate the matter but the quilt and
contents of tne box had been moved
away. From the traces found on
the spot, together with th» story of
the quilt, etc.. It. is supposed that
some refugee from justice iB hiding
tout around here. This supposition
is reasonable enough, but the ques¬
tion arises, who is he?

A meeting of the general committee
of citizens' and aldermen to provide
for the coming meeting of the State
Horticultural Society was held at
the office pf the chairman, Col. J. J.
Hunt, yesterday afternoon, and
thoroughly organized by the appoint¬
ment of all necessary sub-committees,
as follows:

All the committees were empowered
to appoint any sub-committees
necessary,and given powers to act iii
matters pertaining to their duties.
A letter was rend from R. P’ John¬
son, of Smithville, suggesting that
badges be furnished to the State
secretary and sent out with the rail¬
road tickets. The suggestion was
adopted.
In view oithe many expenses inci¬
dent to the proper reception and en¬
tertainment of the many who were
expected to be present—from 200 to
400—and in view of the fact that this
meeting willbe the largest and most
important ever held in Griffin, the
finance committee was instructed to
request a liberal donation from the.
council.
It was resdlvfff to hold a general
meeting of the committees once a
week. The chairmen were instructed
to get the committees together and
go to work at once, and report pro¬
gress at next meeting, which will be
held in the office of Col. Hunt at
tlix-ee o’clock next Monday afternoon,
and at which a full attendance is
urged.
The benefit* of raeation season may be
greatly enhanced, If, at the same time, the

A Correction.
In the report of ths Bible Society
yesterday morning a careless com¬
positor left out the names of the Ex-1
ecutive Committee and got the wrong
name for Treasurer. The Treasurer
is A. W. Blake and the Executive
Committtee is composed of G. R-
Niles, W. J. Harris, G. W. Grant and
D. D. Peden. The mistake was not
in any way the fault of the accurate
and painstaking Secretary.

under bond for his appearance at
the October term of Pike superior
