Don’t fail to bale your cotton well.
Users of cotton bagging give the jute
men a great argument by baling
their cotton so carlessly as to make
plain that the bale must lose several
pounds before reaching the market.

working farmer, who lived about
four miles from here on the Zebu-
Ion road, died on Tuesday night of
typhoid fever. He leaves a wife and
several children who have the sym¬

about fifty years of age.
It is thought that the death of Col.
J. A. Hunt will retard, to a great ex¬
tent, the business of the Pike county
superior court which opens in Zebu-
Ion on the first Tuesday in October.
Several of the cases in which Col.
Taylor was interested bad been
transferred to Col. Hunt, who had

Accident at Concord.
Pike Co. Journal.
Correspondence from Concord on
the 13th inst. brings the following
news: A very serious and what
came very near being a fatal acci¬
dent has just happened at the Bates
ginnery. The machinist and engin¬
eer, Mr. J. H. McCowell, noticing a
belt that was slipping on a pul¬
ley, commenced to put soap on the
pulley while the machinery was in
motion, and the belt caught his
right hand and carried it completely
around and over a ten-inch pulley,
breaking his arm just half way be¬
tween the elbow and shoulder. Mr
McCowell is resting tolerably well at
present. It is possible that he is in¬
jured internally. The accident is
deplored by the whole town. Mr Mc¬
Cowell is one of our best citizens.
Dr. E. R. Anthony has been dispatch¬
ed from Sriffin to aid Dr. Mallary in
settingthe broken arm.
