An Atlanta firm recently received
an order for a bill of goods from for
ofi Oklahoma through an advertise¬
ment in an Atlanta paper. This
should be a hint to advertisers gener¬
ally. Thaw » no telling where an
advertisement, properly placed in an

the good it may accomplish for the

It has been discovered that a mis¬
take was made in engrossing Sena¬
tor Johnson’s cigarette bill. The
word “cigarette” was left out before
“tobacco,” thus changing the mean¬
ing of the law. It was only intended
to prohibit the furnishing of cigar¬
ettes and cigarette paper and cigar¬
ette tobacco, or any substitute there-
lor. to minors. Senator Johnson
will offer a resolution to have this
error corrected.
Circus day was very generally ob¬
served by the people for miles around
this city and the consequence was
that one of the biggest crowds that
ever came to this town was the re¬
sult. Good order generally prevailed
and everybody was pleased with the
show. One or two small rows took
place, but they amounted to very
little besides the knocking on
the head of Officer Fox by a
negro, which took place
in the afternoon. The negro was in
a wagon and struck the officer with
a board. He was not hart beyond a
sore head. A warrant was sworn
out for the negro and the case will be
investigated. 'A large crowd from
all the ^adjoining towns came in by
the railroads.
There is no one institution of a city
that deserves better at the hands of
a people than their home paper. It
labors without reusing for the public
weal, and earnestly endeavors to
promote the best interest of all. A
merchant may not realize the benefit
of special patronage, but it conies to
him through hundreds of channels,
which if traced to their source would
lead directly to the influence of the
work of the paper. A city is judged
more by the character of its news¬
paper than by any other one index,
for its columns mirror the advantages
and attractions of the place. The
News and Sun has no reason to com¬
plain of its support at the hands of
our merchants and business men,
but it has an ambition to carry a
knowledge of every business iu the
city into the surrounding country
The News and Sun desires co do bet¬
ter work for Griffin this season than
it has ever accomplished, and hopes
to make its pages a bright reflection
of the enterprise and push that
characterizes the city. We still have
some space in our columns lor adver¬
tiser*; let them come forward, and
if they trespass too modi on the
spare allotted to reading matter,
why we will develop* enterprise com¬
mensurate with the requirements
and enlarge again accordingly.
