Mr. Kell, a brother of the famous
Capt. McIntosh Kell, is a member of
the surveying corps that has been
running the new line from Greenville
to Pucketts’9 Station. Mr. Kell drop¬
ped in to see us last Monday and in¬
formed us that the survey was com¬
pleted and the tents pitched again
in Greenville preparatory to a sur¬
vey and examination ol the road
from Greenville to Columbus and the
widening of the gauge. Maj. Mon¬
cure for the Central Road has been
over the line irom Greenville to Puck¬
ett’s and made arrangements for
the right of way. Over the greater
part of the line the right of way has
been donated. The town council
have granted the right of way up
and across the two streets touched
by the survey and the authorities
are awaiting the terms to be
mitted by the property holders in
town who are nffected by the pro*
posed route. We learn that libera*
propositions will be offered by these
parties. Taking into consideration

THE PIEDMONT EXPOSITION.
Some Truthful Observations About At¬
lanta’s Latest Fair.
A brief visit to the Piedmont Ex¬
position now in blast in Atlanta
enables us to furnish onr readers with
a few chunks of reliable information
which cannot be found in the Atlanta
papers
The show is worth the price of ad¬
mission, though it is not worth any
long journey to visit. The people
have bad enough of expositions, each
one of which it alike in all essentials
to those which have preceded it.
The Wild West show is the best
part of the exposition, being the
newest to most of those attending.
Next in interest come the trained
seals, the intelligence and docility of
Ihes? uncouth monsters being won
derful. But the sight will cost yon
extra.
The county exhibits are good, but
not novel
The attendance has so far been
very small. On Friday there were
very few passengers an the trains go¬
ing into Atlanta, and the street cars
and railroad trains going out to the
grounds sometimes contained only
one passenger each. People have
not forgotten the exposition of 1887
and ___________________ the gouge games that were _ play-
^ t j ien Atlanta people are the
i same today that they were then,
Unless the attendance increases
greatly, the affair will lose money
very largely.
The grounds are in very good improve! con¬
dition, allowing a marked
ment over two years ago
It is not true that all the exhibits
are now in place, nor will tbey be for
a week yet.
The dairy business can only be
seen in operation a small part of the
time and is not mneh to see.
The fireworks of the fore part of
last week are pronounced by candid
spectators as a fizzle.
The sham battle of next Wednes¬
day will probably be the greatest afc-
traction of the wofc exposition season
