Mr. and Mm. C. B. Patrick, of Uma¬
tilla, Fla,, who have been visiting
their relative* in this county for a
couple of weeks past, win leave for
home next week.
Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
of this week Mrs. M, R. Brown ft Co.
will have on exhibition ah the latest
styles in millinery and fancy goods.
Be sure and give them a call.
I. P. Rosser brought in an ear o*

to foreshadow seven years of plenty,
of which this is the first and greatest.
The rattlesnake is ugly and venom¬
ous, yet wears he this precious jewel
t»f wisdom to his head which man,,
proud man, might well wrest to his
own use: In the midst of slings and
arrows from outrageous fortune, it
is never his business end that gets
rattled.
We call the attention of onr readers
this morning to the grand opening
of Mrs. M. R. Brown ft Co. This es¬
tablishment is certainly the most at¬
tractive one to fchecity and the ladies
wiff miss a rage treat if they foil to
attend their grand opening 19th>
17th and 18th.
Polk Davis, who was shot at Cree-
well on Saturday night by Will Wells,
inflicting a painful wound in the
head and side, asked Wells to come
and see him on Sunday and attempt¬
ed to even matters by reaching out
of bed for his shot gun. WeBa got
out of the way at the time, but it is
pretty evident that he stirred np the
wrong man in attacking Davis.
Mr. Simmons, the clever and popu¬
lar agent for the Grand Republic
cigars, was kind enough a week ago
to promise to send the editor a box
of the same. We have no donbt
that he did so, as he is not a gentle¬
man who would go back on his word
tor a hundred cigars; but we intend
to ask for a strict investigation by
the express company, as they have
not yet been received. The guilty
party will be publiciy exposed in
these columns when discovered.

TO RETUKN THE VISIT.
Warmers From Ohio To Invade Geor¬
gia’s Fertile Districts.
Maj. W. L. Glessner, Commissioner
of the Central railroad, will leave for
Ohio in a week or so, where he goes
to work up and bring down a party
of Ohio farmers and business men to
visit the Georgia State Fair, the
Piedmont Exposition, and different
sections of our State, which they be¬
came interested in, from reading de¬
scriptions of it in the News, the
Southern Empire, and descriptive
pamphlets that have been distribut¬
ed in Ohio.
Many will come down who hel;
entertain the late farmers’ excu;
in Ohio, and the farmers and news¬
paper men who participated in that
excursion only want to show the
coming visitors what Georgia hospi¬
tality is.
The excursion is only the forerun¬
ner of many others, we hope, which
will tend to make the two sections
better acquainted With each other to
every way, and will be mutually bene¬
ficial.
The Central Bailroad is doing a
great Work for the State to this re
spect, and (should have the to-
couragement and support of the peo¬
ple in its laudable enterprise.
Of course, no formers excursion
would think of coming into the State
to view its resources without visiting
the spot selected for the State experi¬
ment farm, as well as the largest
fruit growing point to the State, so
that we may confidently expect the
Ohio parties at Griffin, where they
will be made most heartily welcome,
