The weather hag been peculiar this
fan. It is true that it ha* been pecu¬
liarly propitious for the farmers to
harvesting their crops, bat the mw
ehante and city people have suffered
from the dust. The surface of our
streets has been cut up into an im¬
palpable powder by constant use,and
the dry weather and strong wind of
the past week or two have caused it
to fly in a most intolerable degree.
But it takes dust to make the where¬
withal with which to raise the‘dust.”

Baptist Growth In Sweden.
This church is one of 40Yincluded in
the recently published statistics for 1888.
During that year 28 new churches were
organized. Of the entire number 018
owned houses of worship. There were
521 preachers, some of whom, however,
were debarred by circumstances from
devoting their whole time to the work of
the ministry. The churches included k
total membership of 33,805, of whom
2,393 had been added by baptism. The
Sunday schools contained 82,787 pupils
and 2,816 teachers. Contributions for
all purposes amounted to addition 819,811' kronor,
or about 283,256. In to this
amount some $0,000 a year are received recei
from the Missionary union in Boston, a
part Of which is employed in assisting
weak churches to sustain pastors, but
the larger part is used in carrying on the
work of the Bethel seminary in Stock¬
holm, which gave instruction last
to 27 young men preparing for the
Istry. The significance of these fij
lies in the fact that this growth has
attained in a comparatively short time.
About forty years ago there was not a
-Baptist in Sweden. One who had em¬
braced their views abroad, and had re¬
turned to his native land, was promptly
banished from the country in the delusive
hope of nipping the evil in the bud.—
