! Columbus Ledger: “Mr. F. M.
! Kincaid returned home to Griffin yes-
i terdav, after a pleasant visit to rela-
j tives in this city.”
[ Yesterdays receipts of railroad
j exposition tickets were larger at this
point than any previous day since
the big show opened.
The Columbus Sunday Ledger is
one of the biggest and best papers
gotten out in theState. The Ledger
is a very “sw’agger” paper.
Covington is boring for an artesian
well. A depth of four hundred feet
has been reached, with no apparent
prospect of getting water.
Yellow window sash are becoming
popular. This color wears better
than white, apd gives a bright ap¬
pearance to even a dingy building,
v The repetition of Miss Cbattie
Mitchell’s entertainment last night
was quite successful, the tambourine
drill to music being particularly fine.
Miss Woodruff's singing elicited
much enthusiasm and repeated en¬
cores. Her voiee is very clear and
admirably trained.

taste good at Dock Isoa’a and the
price of a nice plateful remains the
same.
Mrs. Cleveland was asked! the other
day if she thought she would like
housekeeping. She answered: “Cer¬
tainly; it is the only way to live.”
This does credit to Mrs. Cleveland’s
womanly nature, and it recalls the
fact that some people claim that the
great increase in divorces in this
country is due to the lack of home

Rev. Samuel’s Character the Very Rest
The character of Rev. A. Samuel, a
worthy colored minister of this city,
having been attacked by a few evil
disposed persons in Grantville, his
former place of residence, he furnish¬
es the following vindication from the
Mayor of that town:
Grantville. G a., Oct. 21,1889.
Mr. A. Lower, Griffin, Ga.
My Dear Sir—R eplying to your fa¬
vor of the 21st inst.

In reply to that portion A. Samuel’s of your
letter as to what was
standing and general reputation, &c
while in our community, I take pleas¬
ure in saying it was the very best.
He stood of well both and black possessed and white, the both con¬
fidence
as a man and as a minister of the
gospel. No t a breath of suspicion so
far as I ever heard or knew was con¬
nected with hisname while here. * *
