Ileatli ot Alderman Word.
Major John Quiiiy Word died about
eleven o’clock on Wednesday night,
aged over CO years. His death was
caused by general debility and he
has been very feeble for a long time.
He came to this country from Tenn¬
essee about fifteen years ago, and'
engaged in the butcher business with
W. H. Boyles. He then became a
partner in the furniture business with
R. F. Strickland and remained in
that business until his death. He
was a partner of A. S3. Murray from
July, 1881, to January, 1887, after
which he took in his son Robert as a
partner. He was elected four times
as alderman from his ward, and was
a member of the council at the time
of his death. He was a member of
Griffin Fire Co. No. l,of the Red Men
and of the Mechanic's Aid Associa¬
tion, all of which organizations will
attend his funeral today.
He was a kind hearted and charita¬
ble man, and may his ashes rest in
peace!
Since the above was put in type
the sad intelligence was received that
Mrs. J. (I Word, who has been an in¬
valid for u number of years, had
breathed her last at 6;3Ro’clock yes¬
terday evening. The funeral services
of both wi'l bo held at three o’clock
.this afternoon at the Methodist

fered to the public was Ayer's Sarsaparilla.
Imitators have had their day, but soon
abandoned the field, while the demand tor
this incomparable medicine increases year by
year, and was never bo great as at present.
