Mrs. Wm. Warder and Mrs. 8. M.

A gin house belonging to J. E.
Castleberry, at Cabaniss, Monroe
county, was destroyed by fire one
day last week, along with 17 bales of
cotton-seed , 2 engines, a lob of corn,
fodder, etc., an d a thrashing machine.
No insurance. It is thought to be
the work of an incendiary. .
Mrs. John I. Hall had the great
misfortune yesterday morning to
fall off the back steps of her home
and fractured her right hip. Drs.
Moore, Anthony and Collier attend¬

While Griffin is deprived of the
presence of first-clasB theatrical at¬
tractions by the lack of an opera
house, yet it is so close to Atlanta
that it is easily possible to see the
best troupes traveling in the South,
and it is almost unusual to miss the
sight of a Griffin face at a good pro¬
duction at DeGive’s. /‘Held by the
Enemy,’' Lizzie Evans and W. J.
Scanlan have each attracted pleasure
lovers from this city this season.
Among those who attended the per¬
formance of the latter on Thursday
night, and pronounced it only a fair
show, w ith few merits in the plot of the
pieceitself (“MylesAroon”) were: Mr.
and Mrs. J. W. Little,Mrs. E. W. Ham¬
mond, Mrs. M. R. Brown and D.
Glessner; Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Mills;
D. J. Bailey, Jr., with Miss Tiny
Hammond, of Atlanta; Mrs. A.
Johnson and Miss Gussie Trammell,
with Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Becks, of At¬
lanta. Miss Trammell is spoken of
by Griffin’s the Atlanta Constitution as “one
of most beautiful and ac¬
complished young ladies,” and that
she fully justified this trite but some¬
times true compliment would be
readily sworn to by all who saw her
