**«* Marshal.
-
The „ friend* of 0. H. JUon
many
were grieved yesterday morning to
bear of bis arrest by a United States
marshal on the ehaige of issuing
bogus money. Like nearly all large
bars and billiard rooms, Mr. Ison
gives out cheeks for games of pool
which are redeemable in trade at the
bar. He has never used them in
change, but simply as counters for
the games. They are used in thous¬
ands of places in the same way. But
the United States laws are very
strict and sometimes punish
with severy penalties the use
of anything that looks like money.
The worst feature of the law is that
it gives half the fine to the informer,
thereby encouraging the contempti¬
ble practice of the spy and the sneak.
We are glad to say that no citizen of
Griffin has brought the information
upon which the case was based, but

business and calls himself a detec¬
tive, traveling around with a United

r" THE SYNOD.
It Progresses Quietly and Satisfactorf-
ly With Its Work.
The Presbyterian Synod is getting
along smoothly with the work before
It and eliciting much favorable com¬
ment from those who attend by its
business method# in disposing of the
questions that come before it. The
sermons have been good and strong
and the services have been well at¬
tended. The speakers on home mis¬
sions on Thursday night made some
forcible points that were appreciated.
Last night Rev. Dr, Barnett, of At-
jant i, discor.ried equally well on
eign missions.

“When headache joines neuralgia,
then comes the tug of war.” A wise
general marshals aisni his forces, charges
with a bottle of Salvation Oil, and
the doughty foe lies cringing in the
dust.
In Hoc.
A sixteen year old negro was
brought in yesterday from Cabin’s
district for trying to steal a horse.
Three negroes were arrested yester¬
day on suspicion of being concerned
in the Pike county robbery.
This makes eleven occupants of the
county jail, and it is very much
crowded.
The Verdict Unanimous.
