Pike County Journal: “A young
man by the name of Juetice and the
14 year 61d daughter of Bill Griftin
ran away Sunday and were married.
Mr. Griffin pursued them and took
his daughter home. On yesterday
nccompnnied by his daughter he was
in town trying to ascertain where the
license came from. It seems that
they were not issued in Pike. Mr.
Griffin informed us Justice had a
warrant issued for his arrest, but
that he (Justice) would never get bis
daughter by his consent.”
Thomas M. Gibson, Jr., while work¬
ing at Ids cane mill in Talbotcounty
got his head caught between the
lever and the mill, and his neck was
broken. As the lever came down on
him he called to the driver “stop I”
As the word left his mouth the lever
forced his neck down on the edge of
the mill. At the warning cry the
river of the mules sprang to their
eads and stopped them, but too
late to save the life of Mr. Gibson.
When the lever was pulled off him he
fell a corpse. He leaves a wife and
one child. He was abont 25 years
old and was the son of T. N. Gibson,
Sr., the president of the Talbotton
railroad.

it is that so much is heard In praise of Elec¬

The Second Liar ShutOut by the First.
Chicago Journal.
“You may not believe me," said
No. 1, “but who t I’m going to tell
you is gospel. Up at Silver Lake
last summer I caught a half-pound
pickerel. He wasn’t much of a fish
compared with others I’d got, so I
threw him in again, first, however,
clipping his tail into the shape of a
heart so 1 would know him again.
Would you believe it? I have just
come from there now, and I brought
with me that same fish. I caught
him again, but-he gave a great fight
this time, and no wonder, - for he
weighed between six and seven
pounds. The heart shape of his tail
was perfect, just as I had put it.”
“I ;ean quite believe your story,’
returned the second young man,
thoughtfully, “for I had a very sim¬
ilar experience myself. Last year at
the seashore I caught au enormous
bluefish. 1 had plenty of others, so I
thought I’d mark this ont and let
him go. I didn’t like to cut him, so
I took a silver whistle that I carried
on my watch guard and tied it to
the tail of the fish. Only last week,
just before I left there, I caught the
same fish. He was no bigger than
he was the last time I had seen him,
but the little whistle had grown into
a fog horn.”

Gen Allen, Mississippi, I
November 8.1889. j
Hon. John Wanamaker:
Sib:— The enclosed extract from a
South Carolina paper has caused me
great surprise for perhaps you may
remember, if your memory is not
treacherous, your reassurance that to me
a few days ago Mr. Gibbes
should not be removed until the ex¬
piration of his did term in February
next. Not only you do this, but
you much voluntarily Columbia Jaaau red me that in
as as was my post-

of Mr. Gibbes was to be appointed,
consult me. It is a matter of small
place importance Mr. Gibbes. to me who but takes the

Mr. Gibbes will know I at least
told him the truth, though I was

same source.
The newspapers state that besides
which managing the great department over
Sunday you preside you Philadelphia are running
a school in and
it occurs to me you might with pro¬
fit to yourself select a most appropri¬

of Ananias and Sapphire.
This would give you a fine field for

your young the importance
of confining themselves to the truth
except when some landed advantage
might be obtained over a political
opponent. I am,

A Coincidence.
In its legislative notes of last Thurs¬
day the Atlanta Constitution con¬
tains the following:
Mitchell, of Pike..
Mitchell, of Spalding.
The one from Pike is Mr. John H.
Mitchell.
The one from Spalding is also Mr.
John H. Mitchell.
It is customary for the clerk of the
house to furnish a listof the members
to the various railroads in the state
and passes are made out from these
lists. The similarity in the two
names was unfortunate, just here,
for the passenger agents agreed that
a mistake had been made so as to
call for two tickets for the same
member.
So only one ticket was sent.
But the coincidence goes further.
Mrs. Mitchell, of Pike, is Mrs. Re¬
becca Mitchell.
Mrs. Mitchell, of Spalding, is Mrs.
Rebecca Mitchell.
The two gentlemen are not relat¬
ed.
