Dock Ison’s Case.
The case of the United States
vs. O. H. Ison for passing spurious
money.i. e. bar checks, was heard
before U. S. Commissioner Mills yes-
teijlay and occupied all the morn¬
ing. Detective Brown and Ab. Stev¬
enson were the principal witnesses
for the prosecution, simply proving,
what nobody denied, that Mr. Ison
gave ont these checks, good in trade
at the bar, simply as counters for
the pool games. Several gentlemen
were produced by the defense to
prove that the checks were never
used for any other purpose, and also
showed other checks used for the
same purpose both inside and out¬
side the State, as well as some issued
by transfer companies and other
lines of business. Col. Hammond

Stole a Yearling.
Pike County Journal.
Jack O’Neal, ginger-cake, has re¬
cently made his home on Mr. J. W.
Ford’s place. He is now- at large.
Last Friday he hooked a yearling
belonging to another negro named
Jack Mabry and carried it to Barnes-
ville. When he got there his old
name didn’t exactly suit bis fancy
and he changed it, a little, but the
leopard can’t change his spots so be
was arrested by the eity marshal.
Deputy Sheriff Howard happened to
be in Barnesville and Jack was tam¬
ed over to him.
He cuffed his darkey and put him
aboard the Central passenger train,
reaching Griffin at 4 o’clock p. m. At
Griffin he was joined by C. G. Driver
who assisted in transferring the negro
from the Central to the Georgia Mid¬
land train. Upon reaching William¬
son they learned that the A. A F.
train had met with an accident and
would be detained several hours.
Employing John Steams they rigged
up in a vehicle and started for Zebu-
lon. When they reached the edge of
town the thought of going to jail was
too much for Jack and he leaped out
and “heeled it.” Howard ran after
him and shot at him twice, but the
negro made good his escape with a
pair of hand cuffs.
