mascot of the city. Since its doors
were opened Augusta has not only
beei. visited by prominent people
. . . -
and wealthy capitalists, bnt all
sorts of enterprises and rapid transit
schemes have been developed and
put in the way of prompt execution.
The hotel itself is pronounced a
magic little palace. It not only
draws the choicest custom from the
most exclusive circles at the north,
but it is pronounced by distinguished
tourists and by those accustomed to
the very best accommodations of
the metropolis to be the best kept
and most comfortable hotel in the
country. This is a high and deserved
tribute to Manager Linsley and the
public spirited gentlemen who con¬
trol this resort, and such a reputa¬
tion will keep the Bon Air at the
front in the future. t5o successful
has it proven in ite first season that
other hotels are projected on the
Hill in the city, and on other heights
about Augusta, endian enlargement
of the Bon Aair itself is already
talked of. This will, in fact, be neces¬
sary next season, and a grand ball
room and a score or mors suites of
apartments will be in demand next
winter.
Meanwhile here’s to the Mascot
and the spirit of development which
it is working and arousing in this
community!
THE BON AIK’S GROWTH.
Augusta News, a few days later:
The hotel Bon Air is the toast of
northern visitors and the Georgia
wonder among southern resorts. It
started on a small scale and a wing
had to be added before it opened its
doors in order to make room for thei
famous dining room on the Hill. Its!
first season under Manager Linsley
has been so popular that many
guests have been turned away and
some of the most distinguished men
in the country have been unable to
secure the number of rooms desired
at our uew resort. Jno. D. Rockefel¬
ler, the richest man ip America, was
on this list and Robert Garrett’s
party made a stay of only a day or
bo because they occupied temporari¬
ly a suite of rooms made vacant for
this brief space. Other instances of
the same kind are abundant
And now, at the annual meeting, it
is decided to issue $ 125,000 of bonds
to wonderful enlarge record the hotel ai tBe kin. This is a
for first season,
and the addition of a grand ball
room and handsome suites of apart¬
ments will perfect the handsome and
most popular southern resort for
next directors season. Manager heartily Linsley and
the are congratu¬
lated on their success, and we salute
the Bon Air and all connected with
EVEN THE SUBURBS OF OTHER PLACES
GO AHEAD.
Macon Nfews: A $100,000 hotel.
That is the grand scheme Mr. Hen¬
ry Ilorne now has in contemplation,
and which he would have baa under
good headway by this time, had he
not been taken sick.
As soon as Mr. Horne is strong
enough he intends going to work to
build a $100,000 hotel to be located
£u-Vineville. JHis idea is for home-like place to
a
qttraet Northern visitors in winter
■find South Georgians in summer. He
has bought 50 acres of land very
conviently situated. The Yineville
electric road will be extended to it.
The place is high and commanding

fountains and lakes. Mr. Mr. Horne Horne will will

to
aid also in the scheme, and he will
present the matter to their consider-
ation as soon as he is able to meet
them.
THE WAY WE LET AMERJCUS GET
AHEAD.
The subscription books of the
stock of the hotel at Americus have
just been closed, with nearly$10.000
subscribed. These subscriptions
sioners, in which they hotel pledged thero-
selyes to erect a to cost not
lees’than $100,000, provided the
commissioners would deed to them
for the nominal sum of $5,000 the
older court house commissioners sqna re as a building
site. This the did,
thereby assuring the building of the
hotel beyond a doubt.
