It is a Bilver punch tureen with ac¬
companying salver and ladle. The
bowl is to be 21 inches long, 11
inches high and 11 inches broad, and
will hold about 2% gallons. The
salver is to be 26 ittCnes frodi handle
to handle, and 18 inches wide. The
ladle is to be 24 Inches long.
Each piece, according to the de¬
sign. is to represent the peaceful in pros¬ the
perity Houth, and that is is also now typical enjoyed of Mary¬
land. The front of the bowl will have

scription will be engraved. Surmount¬
ing white this are two raised figures, a
and negro child—the former in
the act of passing the cup of peace
to the latter. Surrounding the me¬
dallion are the leaves and blossoms
of a growing tobacco plant to rep¬
resent the leading industry of Mary¬
land. On the reverse side is a similar
medallion on which will be engraved
the coat of arms of the State.
Trailing with clusters around it are cotton plants
of balls and open pods.
This is typical of the South. The
handles represent Bacchus and Po¬
mona, pousse work respectively. the bowl All the will res- be

One of tlie most remnrkalile wo¬
men of Georgia, say the Telegraph,
is Mrs. H. S. Gould, of Machen. It
was largely through her means and
efforts that the Covington uud Ma¬
con Railroad was built, and after it
was put into operation she had a
great deal to do with its manage¬
ment, It is related that on one oc¬
casion an engine on the Covington
and Macon had become derailed at
some station on the line. The local
section boss and his men, the engin¬
eer, the conductor and brakemeu,
with perhaps some of the passen¬
gers, worked for hours trying to get
the big locomotive back on the track.
They were preparing to give it up ns
bad job, when Mrs. Gould came
along. She saw at a glance what
was the matter, and guve a few dew
cisive orders. Within twenty min¬
utes the engine was ready to pull
out. There are other and similar
stories of her executive ability and
energy. Besides her railroad opera
tiouB,Mrs.Gould finds time to profit¬
ably manage her 400 acre farm near
Machen. It is said that she has done
a great deal towards building the
Middle Georgia and Atlantic Rond.
