Skwank*, Term., June 5.—The Rev.
Thomas T. Gaiior haa crowned his long
bet of sacrifices for Sewanee by refusing
the bishopric of Georgia.
Sewanee is beside itself with exdte-
nent. Bells have been rung, and the
most uncontrollable emotion is exhib¬
ited on all sides.
The students and people vie with each
other in attempting to show their love
and devotion to the one man who ha*
thought it worth while to lay his life
and talents upon the altar for Sewanee’s
good.
With tears in his eyes Mr. Gaiior told
the hoi's that there were some things
greater than wealth, than honor, than
ambition, and. he prayed God that they
would learn that lesson.
He said, too, Shat the people of the
south would find out that Sewanee and
her aims were worthy of being sacri¬
ficed for.
The exercises of the university have
been suspended, and the 800 students
will give vent to t heir feelings and testi¬
fy their abiding love for a man whose
heart beats so warmly for them.
Georgia has lost a noble bishop, but
the University of the South has gained
a splendid future.
