New Orleans, Sept. 18.—A call has
been published here signed by leading
membtoxb of the Farmers’ Alliance call¬
ing for a third party convention to meet
in Alexandria Oct 2, tot the purpose of
placing a full state ticket'in the field.
The Knights of Labor and Industrial
Union are asked to send delegates to the
convention which will base Sts platform
on the Ocala demands. A split in the
Alliance has been expected for some
time, but it was not thought that it
would go the length of placing an Inde¬
pendent ticket in the field. A major¬
ity of the Alliance some weeks ago
united with the antj-lottery Democrats,
securing the nomination for governor
and other state officers and agreeing to
run on a Democratic and not on the
Ocala platform.
The minority, which is hacW bv
President Polk has repudiated this ac-
tion and decided to nominate a straight
ticket on a straight platform. The re¬
sult njay be to have two Alliance candi-
dates for governor, one running as a
the Democrat on a Democratic platform,
other an Alliance man on an Alli¬
ance platform. * The call for the con¬
vention render three state tickets, Dem¬
ocrat, Alliance and Republican certain
in tho couhng- <-leet-ion, and possibly
four. The split in the Alliance ranks is
trying likely to to be defeat injurious to those who are

lottery law.

text to which was unknown by the

* Denison, Tex., Sept. 18.—At Atoka,
I. T., Charles Emerson, a passenger
brakeman on the M. K. & T. railway,
and a resident of this city, was arrested
charged with smuggling whisky into
the territory. It seems Emerson has
been suspected of selling whisky in the
