ment ha* been caused here over the re¬
port that Dr. L. S. Merriam and Mias
Mary L. Yeargin, who were supposed to
have been drowned in Lake Cayuga on
Bov. 18, were in New York city, and
that the doctor had written a friend in
Ithica laat Friday informing him of hia
whereabouts. The report is said to have
been started by a letter carrier, who
claimed to have delivered the letter to
the owner, who afterwards read the
contents of the note to him. When seen
by a reporter the letter carrier firmly
denied the story, and oonld not account

Mexico Secured »Toan.
City of Mexico, Nov. 30.— The Mexi¬
can government, in order to refund ad¬
vances obtained in 1892 to dissolve pri¬
vate mints and concluded complete the Tehuantepec
railroad, has a new 6 per cent
loan with the Natioal Bank of Mexico
and the Bleiehroders, of Berlin, for
8,000,000 pounds sterling, secured by a
lien of 12 per cent on the export duties.
The loan will be issued in January.
Rlock Coal Monopoly In Chicago.
Chicago, Nov. 80.—Negotiations have
been completed giving the control of all
the block coal produced in Indiana for
the next year to the Indiana Block Coal
company of Chicago.
