It is with the keener pleasure because of thia belief that we record tbe fact of there being one preacher in Griffin whoban afforded a signal refutation of sneha slander. With touching frankness Rev. T. W. O’Keily announced in the pulpit of tbe Baptist church on Sunday night, after one of his pointed and practical sermona, that be had just come to the decision to remain in Griffin and turn a deaf ear to tbe call of the Macon church. He acknowledged that th> temptation of this third call during the seven months be has been in Griffin was very great, because it ie a vigorous and growing church with much chance for good work among the Macon students, who were particularly desirous for him to come, But the Griffin congrega- tioo bad given him each strong sup- port, and bis labors here were being so blessed that be felt it his dut v to remain, und hoped with increasing support church. to continue in building up the As ifin reward for bis decision, two more converts came forward as the Didn’t Know It Wst Loaded. Do Sunday morning Dud 8peer, the colored driver of the Atlanta Brewing and Ice Co., in this city, was seriously wounded by Jim Stewart, another negro, who is a porter at W. L.Smith’s bar. It seems that Dud bad gone over to Jim Stewart’s bouse aod while there Jim got out an old pistol, and while talking to Dud pointed the weapon at him and snapped it, not thinking it was loaded, but the usual result followed, and tbe load entered tbe thigh of Dud aod bad to be cat out. While tbe wound is serious it is uot fatal, though had it struck an inch further in it would, Id nil proba¬ bility have severed tbe femoral ar¬ tery aod have produced death.
