1 he Because Boom Robbed. ,
The baggage room at the Central
railroad passenger depot was brok«
eu into and a small amount of m»n«

baggage agent A. L. Cherry, which

Hambrick, a negro boy, was caught
about an hour after the robbery aod

action of the grand jury, which is
now in session.
The circumstances in brief are as
follows: Ed is the mail carrier
between the railroad and postoffice
and has charge of the colored wait¬
ing room at the depot. After the
last train had pussed at 8:25 that
night John Williams, Cherry’s the colored
man who is one of Mr. as¬
sistants, discovered Ed loafing
around the depot and because of bis
suspicions actions resolved to watch
him aod went iuto tbs room next to
the baggage room lor that purpose.
In a little while he heard something
in the baggage room and leaving the
place be was in be started around to
the house, when thenegro boy walked
out of the rear door right at him.
He questioned and be him denied as to baring where beep be
had been
in the baggage room and John let
him go, after which he found the
door open; be wen t in and also found
the drawer broken open. He at once
informed Mr. Cherry, who bad
gone home, and the two got Police¬
man Uossutt and went to where the
boy lived and arrested him. After
leaving the house the boy confessed
and told them where the money was
hidden.
They returned and found $4.10 in
a hole in a fence corner. This
amount, together with some $8
more which Mr. Cherry says is miss¬
ing, was the extent of the steal.
