IS ENOUGH TO ELECT ATKINSON
Even if It is Not as Large as Might Be.
A VICTORY OVER DEMOCRATIC APATHY',
AND THE POPULIST MANIPULATION WITH THE
NEGRO VOTE.
WHITE bUPREMACY STILL MAINTAINED
AND POPULIST VAGARIES AT
- * A DISCOUNT*
All indications at this hour -two o’clock Thursday morniDg— point
to a greatly reduced majority for the Democrats from two years ago, yet
the results of yesterday’s flection make A great practical victory when all
things ate considered.
The State is saved from Populist rule .for two years to come and by
t'lit time this mushroom political madness will have died the natural
death of all such “ephemeral
The Populists wfll derive tempo¬
rary encouragement from the reduc¬
tion in the majority of two yeais
ago, bat that majority was pbenom*
eaal and this one is really as large
when the depressed condition of cot,-
t >n and Democratic apathy is taken
into consideration.
Lsfc the Populists take what cm-
station they niuy over their inef¬
fectual gains, the fact remains that
Georgia is safely and soundly Demo¬
cratic by a majority that compara¬
tively few States in the Union can
boast of, and two years from now
can re elect Governor Atkinson by
any desired majority, while the ever
shifti og opposition of the grand old
party of this government will in all
probability have ceased* to exist in
its present form.
Thirty thousand majority satisfies
ns—if it satisfies the Popnliets as
well, we shall rejoice to see ourerrine
fellow-citizens satisfied for the first
and probably the last time in their
lives.
We present our readers with the
results as viewed and estimated by
