Washington, Feb, 4. — Apropos of
Senator Bacon’s notice that he would,
at the earliest opportunity, attempt to
get up his resolution regarding ch*

ator elates that he will not only ask to
have the resolutions taken up, but that
he will make an earnest effort to get s

Senator Bacon ^ declines to discuss his

yesterday 's secret sessiou, but it if nn
i deratood that his opposition was msn-
ifestad only towards the one proposition
to extend tbs time until Monday at 1
o’clock. He took the position that M
defer the vote until that time, only two
hours before the vote on the amity it¬
self, would be unfair sad therefore
Mr, Baoon expressed the opinion to¬
day that there would be no objection to
a vote on, the resolutions at any tims
from members of the opposition, bui
said that the objection was directed en¬
tirely at the proposition to fix a definite
time for a vote so near the time for mo¬
tion bn the treaty.
Tbs friends of thb-bpenty still find
themselves short of the votes necessary
to ratify the treaty and some of them
candidly confess that such is the esse.
They shortage are, however, still hopeful thai
