SPALDING COUNTY DISPLAY
LEAVES FOR STATE FAIR.
T#o Largo Freight Car* Filled to the
Top With Product* That WU1
Carry Off a Prlie.
The Spalding County exhibit for
the d.splay that is to carry off the
first pr ze at the State Fair left for
Savannah yesterday noon. It filled
two large freight oars, with an ag¬
gregate capacity of 100,000 pounds,
and then many things had to be
left oat. List night Mr. M. S.
Story, who has oarried off five
piizes at State fairs, not losing a
single time, followed on the through
passenger and will be kept very
busy arranging the display in an ef-
b ciive and artistic manner until
the day of the opening, which is
next Wednesday.
The vaiiotu splendid produots of
Spalding's varied agricultural re-
somoes, from the two dozen differ¬
ent kinds of rich and fragrant baled
hay ti the sweet honey iu the comb
that was gathered from the clover;
the twenty different kinds of sweet
potato s, the pumpkin yam and the
big yellow pumpkins to whloh it is
such dose kin; the sixteen foot
earn on the stalk and the pound and
a half oorn in the ear, packed next
to the big red gravy hams and the
huge sides of meat that are the
prodaois of such oorn ; the great
stalks of cane and the cane and sor-
gbnm syrnp which goes over the
corn cakes; tbe hot “Hammond
sauce" which Rev. and Judge E W.
Hammond deals out from pulpit and
benoh, and which gees over the
meats at h:s table, with the bright
red peppers from which it is made
in glass jars ard on the bush ; jars
of sweets that would tempt the
tooth of an anchorite; brcom oorn
heavy enough to sweep the mnlti-
tndinons seas; wheat from the
famons Walker fields; surmount¬
ing all, in eaoh car, the family
trees of King Cotton—to enumerate
these things in detail would fill
columns and to attempt to describe
them would be to do injustice to
the best things God ever made.
Savannah wou’d have a creditable
State Fair if no other exhibits were
made.
