THE HIGH FALLS ELEC¬
TRICITY WILL DO‘IT.
A Company formed and the Prelect
It Tak ng Definite Shape. Means
Numberless Small Factories.
The project, to bring the wonder¬
ful power of High Faffs to Griffin
and utilize it aff over the oity, men¬
tion of which has been made at
various timea daring several years
past, has at last taken definite
phape and premises to be carried to
an early completion. The property
at the Falls belongs to Captain
Grantland, who has pat in a splen¬
did new dam and just oomDleted a
magnificent race to oarry all the
water, which is estimated to give
2,500 horse power. He is now
ready to put up a large, first-class
roller flour mill, whioh Contractor
Bam Cunningham will begin on this
week.
Capt. Gran’land has associated
with h'mself Captain W. J. Kin¬
caid, J. M. Brava ner and Charles
Wheeler as the stockholder in a
company with ail the neoessary
oapitul to carry ont his plans to
bring the balance of his power to
Griffin, with the electric power
house at the Falls. Allowing for
loss iu transmission, there will
still be between 1,500 and 2,000
horse power to utilize here. Of
this, 1,300 horse power oan be used
at once ia the cotton mills in which
tbese gentlemen are interested, snp-
p’anting the steam power now ns:d,
at a rate that will be very profitable
to both patties. This is what
makes the sobeme at onoe feasible
and ensures its early carrying out.
Without this immeditely available
demand for most of the power, it
would be slow work to srccessfully
introduce add could not pay, proba¬
bly,for a long time. As it is, the paw
er can be sold to smaller enterprises
at a graduated scale of prices, and
as fast as this demand increases,
the mills will have lo give up pan
of their supply, as they could not
afford to pay the retail rates. So
the whole matter adjusts itself on a
sliding scale.
Just how mnoh this maans to
Griffin, it is hard to realize. Any
industry requiring small power oan
start up here on small capital, no'
being deterred bv the prospeot of
an expensive power plant at the
ontset. All industries can work
moie cheaply and to greater ad¬
vantage, and this means the start¬
ing of all kinds of new enterprises
and the rapid building np of Griffin
It is expected that the new oom-
pany will organize and get to work
the first of next year and every¬
thing will be in successful operation
before the end of the year—there
being a great deal of work to be
done upon it.
