EXCHAN 63 DEDICATED
Palatial New Building Ready
For Occupancy.
CEREMONIES WERE IMPRESSIVE.
New Edifice l« Formally Presented to
Rudolph Keppler, President of'the
New York Stock Exchange.
New York, April 22,—The members
of the New York Stock Exchange
abandoned business today to devote
themselves to the- ceremonies inci¬
dent to the dedication of their_hand-
some new building. .
These ceremonies were brief and im¬
pressive. After prayer by the Rev.
Morgan Dix, of Trinity church, Ran¬
som H. Thomas, chairman of the build¬
ing committee, formally handed the
new building over to Donald McKay,
president of the New York Stock Ex¬
change Building asosciation, who, in
turn, formally presented it to Rudolph
Keppler, president of the exchange,
for the membeis. In accepting the
building, Mr. Keppler made a well-
timed and appropriate address.
An address by Mayor Low on behali
of the citizens and invited guests, fol¬
lowed. and then the mem hers and thelf
guests, including many men piominent
in financial and business circles, were
shown through the building. Among
the inyited guests were the president
and secretary of the Consolidated Ex¬
change. the' New York .Stock Exchange
for the first time recognizing that insti¬
tution. The members of the Consoli¬
dated Exchange sent their well wish¬
es with a large floral piece containing
500 American Beauty roses. The board
room, whete the dedicatory ceremonies
were held, was crowded long before
the hour set' for the opening and the
guests were entertained with music
by bands end orchestras.
It is just two years since th*
the work of tearing down the
old building to make room for ^he
new was commenced and during that
time the Stock Exchange members
have been accommodated at the Pro¬
duce Exchange. It was predicted
that the work would be completed
within a year, but the difficulties were
greater than the architects and con¬
tractors had counted on. The build¬
ing, which looks small beside the sky¬
scrapers by which .it is surrounded,
presents a striking appearance with
its massive and beautifully carved
stone pillars and decorations. The in
terior has been arranged looking tc
the comfort, in every way possible,
of the members. An impregnable
vault has been built fat the safety ol
securities, the heating, cooling and
ventilating arrangments are perfect
and the board’s other rooms are large
and tastily decorated.
The building, w-hich fronts on Broad
steret, extends through New street
with an opening on Wall street In the
old building. In the construction
was necessary to go 40 feet below
level of Broad street. In the celiaf
of the Exchange are vaults of safe
posit companies and the plants
cooling and heating the building.
