City Note* and New* From Thii

IN THK LIMELIGHT.
For many years he did liis bed*
To catch the public eye.
But the papers would not print his name,'
The crowds just passed him by.
No matter what he said or did-
Oh, sad it is to tell!
lie never once got oil the spot
Where the brilliant limelight fell.
Till one fair day he found himself
The Center of a crowd;
All eyes were turned upon him,
All tongues were shouting loud.
And all the clamor was for him,
For him the laugh and jest,
And in the newspapers next day
His name led all the rest.
How did he win this sudden fame?
As simple ns—why, pshaw !
'Twas the fifteenth of October
And he wore a lid of straw.
