WARD’S REXALL STORE MORBID MOB PAWS OVER RELICS OF BOBBY FRANKS AS FATHER SELLS HOME FURNISHINGS AT AUCTION Chioago, Sept. 23.—The morbid the curious, the relic hunters—all these flocked into tt#> house where little Bobby Pranks toddled about In earlier years md romped with friends later oi in his life. It was somewhat of a ghoulish v , gathering. The avidity with which richly gowned women and girls paw¬ ed over objects in the home of Ja¬ cob Franks, the murdered boy’s father, made the elder Franks weep. Stern and Brave. As stern and brave as ever, Franks had insisted on attending the auction of the furnishings of his home on the last day that he re¬ tained ownership of the place. For, since his son was murdered by Na¬ than F. Leopold, Jr., and Richard Loeb, Franks has sold the house that contained only bitter memories and at Monday’s sale he wished to rid himself forever of most of the things that had made the place hab¬ itable. Some of the playthings Robert Franks used had been taken out of the house by the father. Some of Bobby’s clothes had been carefully packed away, to be kept in memory of a terrible ordeal and a heart¬ rending and stressful period. But some of the Franks boy’s things wer e st ill in the home and these were blazoned before the crowd by an auctioneer, who knew how to ad¬ vertise. There was spirited compe¬ tition for every article on sale that had even remote connection with the Franks boy, the victim of one of the most revolting murders in the his¬ tory of American jurisprudence. Astonishing Exhibition. If Bobby Franks’ spirit could have seen the surging throng that crowd¬ ed and jostled each other to get a glimpse of the furnishings of a home where once he was happy, he must have quailed. For it was an as tonishing exhibition, this mad scramble in a home from which a boy had gone out to be murdered, to obtain objects reminiscent of the crime. After the day’s sale was over, Ja¬ cob Franks, his lips pressed tight , together, his head bowed, left his one time dwelling place, turned around for a last look, then gave the keys over to a caretaker and walked away, as he expressed it— ti forever. r» Mother Not There. Mrs. Franks was not there. While the two murderers of her little son wfere carrying out their daily rou tine,in Joliet, where they were sent, instead of to the gallows, Mrs. was anxiously asking nurses attending her when her boy would come back. and imagines For in the her that mother’s mental her mind wanderings boy is simply affected she is Reduced Prices “away' and twlill some day come back. Of course, as all those who recol¬ lect the stage melodrama will re¬ member, the biggest moment in “Nellie, the Beautiful Cloak Model ft comes with the heroine tied to the rails of the elevated (by the villain of course) and the wheels of the ; VfijS grinding - dowii' swiVtfy" upor? Claire Windsor, regarded by some as the screen’s loveliest beauty, a delicate Dresden china type, with yellow hair, played role of Nellie, and exhibited unassuming bravery such as few women are called upon to show. Miss Windsor was laid flat across the rails, only six inches away from those terrible looking wheels. She is rather tall for a woman and ^ter feet and head extended completely across them. —Once, when the air brakes let out some steam, which blew into her face, she lifted her arm to cover her eyes and came within two inches of touching the* v Yes, We will Fix Your Ford S As well as any other make of car. / i We specialize in Alemiting and Doping * Gars. f wm,. h SKELTON’S GARAGE Phone 205 — •• % ^ ^ ^ A A A A a . -*- a. e. a a. . rail.
