Semper, Ga., March 9.—We are hav
ing some very disagreeable weather,
which keeps the farmers behind with
their work.
The young people enjoyed the enter
tainment given by Mr and Mrs. Wilbur
Maddox Tuesday night.
Mrs. Minnie Ogletree is on an extend
ed visit to Jenkinsburg, Locust Grove
and Flippen.
G. W. Kinard, Jr., is very sick.

Case Tried Monday.
Juda-e E. W. Hammond’s court
convened Monday in regular early
spring session. Jn calling over the
docket, the judge announced that
he thought he could get throu jh
with it by Wednesday night.
The first thing the conrt did was
to appoint Judge W. H. Beck solic
itor pro tem., Solicitor J. D. Boyd
being absent at the bedside of a
very sick wife. Judge Beck assum
ed the duties of the office with read
iness and ability, and wnile civil
business was the order of the day,
by noon he had the case of Joe
Griffin disposed of—a Sunny Side
distiller who had started up a few

S. Wells, of Griffin, spent several last
week with relatives here.
Loften Wells, from near here, and
Miss Della Brooks, of near Luella, were
married last Thursday evening, Dr.
M itchell officiating. This was quite a
surprise, owing to the youthfulness of
both. They will reside with the fami
ly of Jim Wells.

made good use of the pretty weather of
last week. A grsat deal of gardening
was done; bedding of sweet potatoes,
which are bringing one dollar per
bushel. We find the Bunch Yam the
best potato raised —very « tarce
Jhe warm days of last week put new
life into the wheat crop, winch was
very backward and lite. It has always
been said that for a good wheat year it
must be high enough to hide a rabbit in
March, but if it gets high enough this
year to hide a molly it has got to get a
hump on it in the next few days.
Remember next Sunday is Bro. Buf
fington’s day here, and we are glad to
know there Is a movement on foot to
organize a Sabbath school at this place.
County School Commissioner Miller
visited the school here Friday and was
well pleased with the manner and pros
pects of it under the management of
Miss Emma Manley. We said last
week the second prize was awaided to
Virgil Brooks, when it should have
been Clark.
