JONESBORO LADY
SUES PREACHER
Claims That Minister Called Her a
“Devil Incarnate.”
Joneslwro, Ga., November 19.—
[Special.]—Mrs. Sadie A. Bean, one
otthemosit prominent ladies in this
city, has entered suit for SIO,OOO al
leged damages in the superior court
of Clayton county against Rev. .1. C.
Atkinson, pastor of the Methodist
church at Jonesboro.
The petition alleges, among other
sensational charges, that in a -dis
course which he delivered September
8, last, Rev. Mr. Atkinson referred
to Mrs. Bean as “a devil incarnate, a
devil from hell.”
At that time Mis. Bean was chair
man of the missionary society of the
church. The minister stated, it is
alleged, that she had dissented from
the discipline of the church. Some
what later, the petition goes on to
aver, he read before a large number
of the congregation a letter he had
written Mrs. Bean calling upon her
either to confess her wrong in dis
senting from church discipline, or to
stand a church trial or to withdraw.
The petition declares further:
“The said Atkinson used his posi
tion as pastor to inflict undue morti
fication upon your petitioner.”
The suit will be tried at the next
term of the Clayton county superior
court. Mrs. Bean is represented liy
W. L. Watterson, of Jonesboro, and
by Dorsey, Brewster, Howell & Hey
man, of Atlanta. She is the wile of
R. O. Bean, who has offices in Atlanta
as traveling passenger agent of the
Union Pacific, the Oregon Railroad
and Navigation Company and the
Southern Railroad Company.

1 give him Chamberlain’s Cough Rem
edy for three or four days which pre
vents the attack.” This remedy is for

| HE HAS MADE MONEY
FARMING INTELLIGENTLY |
Story of the Success of a Yoan£ Man
of Monroe County.
Robert M. Worsham, born in Mon- i
roe county in 1879, the son of Mr.
and Mrs. J. R. Worsham, of that I
county, is one of the young farmers
who has practically demonstrated the
possibilities of farm life in Monroe
county. Only about eight years ago,
just after he had reached the age of
young manhood, he purchased a
farm, to be paid for out of the pro
ducts of the farm, his means at that
time being rather limited. But he
went to work with a will and an in
telligent determination to succeed,
which he has done to a remarkable
degree.
Mr. Worsham, in the short space
of eight years, has wonderfully im
proved and built up his farm lands.
He has splendid orchard
of varied fruits, and established a
cannery lor fruits and vegetables, for
which he always finds a ready mar
ket. While his farm is six miles dis
tant from market, he has made
market gardening a success. He is
the first to bring into market cabbage,
watermelons, l>eans and other vege
tables.
Mr. Worsham annually grows
thousands upon top of thousands of
cabbage plants for transplanting,
which are known in every market ■
throughout the county.
Mr. Worsham is at work, assisting
and directing, in the production
other crop., besides those mentioned
above, such as cotton, corn, oats and i
hay. With the cattle grazing in the ’
pasture, the hogs rooting in the ‘
woods lot and the hens cackling in the :
barnyard, he has a typical country i
home, presided over by the queen of
his household, his noble wife, who
was Miss Lula Banks. Sheisnovvand
always has been an active helpmeet
and a constant inspiration to him in
his efforts to succeed.
Along with the details of iairn life,
Mr. Worsham finds time to serve his
district as magistrate, and to build
bls neighbors houses for them, or
paint them as the occasion may de
mand, for his versatility rendershim
available for all this work.
Mr. Worsham should be an inspi
ration to the young men ot our county
to remain on the farm. What he is
doing can be done by others, if they
will only use and apply the same sys- :
tematic methods of larming.
