IN TAXABLE VALUES

Work of Compilation Showing:

STATE TAX COMMISSIONER!
HAS BEEN GIVEN REPORT'
Reports Already Received Indicate!
That for First Time in History of
State lax Returns Will Go Over
Billion Dolar Mark.
Spalding county shows a substan- [
t : al increase in taxable property re
turns for the year 1918 over the year
1917. Tux Receiver H. T. Johnson lias |
just completed the work of compiling]
the returns made here and forwarded .
his report to Hon. John C. Hart, tax)
commissioner of Georgia, who will
compare it with other counties in the
State ami forward back to Mr. John
son.
Mr. Johnson’s report shows that
during the present year the total
property returned for taxation in
Spalding county was $6,665,660, as
compared with $6,264,860 in 1917,
showing an increase of $400,500 which
is most gratifying and shows the
county's wealth is steadily increasing
each year.
In this conection it is interesting to
note that the State tax commission
has already received reports indicat
ing that for the first time in the his
tory of the State the total tax r-e
turns wil go over the billion dollar
mark. Judge Hart’s figures show
that the wealth of the State has been
increasing for rflany years, but the
State has never reached the billion
mark until now. At the present rate
of five mills, Georgia’s income will
be much more than $5,000,000.
