AUSTRIftOFMILITARY POWER
PROVIDE FOR DEMOBILIZATION
Withdrawal of Hungarian Troops From West Front, Sur
render of Submarines, Battleships, Cruisers., Etc.,
Also Called For —Armistice Signed Sunday and Be
l came Effective at Noon Monday.
WASHINGTON, Nov. 4.—Complete and effective surren
der of Austria-Hungary, Germany’s remaining ally in the
great world wide war, provided by the United States-allied
armistice terms, are now operative, and were made public by
the State department here today.
The terms stripping her of the last shred of military power
provide for total demobilizat on, including the withdrawal of
S the Austro-Hungarian troops from the west front, for the
surrender of half of her divisional corps, army artillery and
equipment, for withdrawal from all invaded territories, for al
lied occupation of strategic points in Austria-Hungary, for the
surrender of stipulated numbers of submarines, battleships,
cruisers, etc., for United States-allied supervision of the bal
ance of her Meet and United States-allied occupation of the
Danube forts and big Austrian naval base Pola.
These terms, with others, put the iron clamp on Austria.
From them may be deducted the nature of the terms to be
meted out to Germany, it is stat ed authoritatively.
The armistice, which was signed by General Diaz yesterday
afternoon, became effective this afternoon at three o’clock, at
which hour hostilities ceased. ,
