A HUMAN BELLOWS.
A Men Shot In the Cheat Breathe,
Through III, Armpit,
There is a man In the hospital
named James Dwyer who has three
bullet holes in his chest, one of
which is still unhealed. Through
the last-mentioned wouud, which it
a little way below the left armpit,
he expels air from his lungs. A
Tribune reporter visited the man
last evening at St. Mark’s Hospital.
He bad no hesitation in exhibiting
his peculiarity, and when request
ed to strip, removed his shirt and
showed the reporter four holes in
his chest and back where two bul
lets had entered and another where
a ball bad struck his shoulder and
came out under his arm. There
was also a hole or two in his leg.
From the wound under the armpit
he Ineatbed so loudly that the
sound of air escaping through the
orifice could be heard the length of
the room. The reporter held his
hand before the hole and fell the
air rushing out. Itwycr tells his
Btory ns follows:
“I was in Bonanza City about
three years ago. I had a mining
claim,'and a man named Flaxon—
Charley was his first name—came
nt me with a six shooter tor a fight.
Well, before I knew it he had filled
me up with lead, I had holes all
over me, and they crossed this way
and that, until I couldn’t tell for a
certainty which bullet made any
two holes. For a whilo you could
look into one of the holes and see
my heart quite pinin, hut that heal
ed up, and now there is no show to
sec the heart at all. If you’d a
been here a year or more ago I
could have shown you the heart
beating right along. I aint much
ol an exhibition now; all I can do
is to pump uir out of my lungs by
this bole. Once I could take it in
one place and send it out another,
but the other hole healed. I was
all well once, but the wounds open
ed again.
“Did yon return the lire?” asked
the reporter.
“Hadn’t any gun; but after I was
shot a few times I went for him
and got him down and the crowii
pulled me oil'. When I got him
down lie began to holler murder;
nice chap to be singin’ out murder
after the way be had acted. He
shot his partner once the same way.
Guess I’ll lie out in a few days all
right.”—Sail Lake Tribune.
A Dolinin’s Kxprrlrnce.
Mothers and (laughters should
feel alarmed when wenrincss con
stantly oppressed them. “If I am
fretfui from exhaustion of vital
powers and the color is fading from
my face, Parker’s Ginger Tonic,
gives quick relief. It builds me
up and drives away pain witli
wonderful certainty.’’-Bulialo lady.
Astonishing a Money-Lender.
“I owned about 3,000 bead of
cattle in Texas about three years
ago,” said the Texan, “and ns my
range was very large I thought
that if I could raise some money on
the herd I’d buy more cattle and
increase the business. So I came
to New York and knocked around
Wall street for two weeks before I
could get any one to listen to me.
At last through the intervention of
n friend, I got Morgan, of Ilrexel,
.Morgan & Co., to hear me talk for
half an hour. I told him thal|thc
cattle were worth, how they dou
bled in value every four years, and
by figures made an average yearly
profit of thirty-three nud one-third
percent. I described them running
wild over the range and getting fat
on the nutritious grasses. lie in
quired about fences. I told liim we
had none. “No Ience?” lie said in
a tone of holy horror. “Why, good
Lord, young man, I’d as soon take
a mortgage on u school of codfish
off the banks of Newfoundland.”—
