to submit the following General
Presentments:
We have, through the proper
committees, examined the books
and accounts of the various officers
of the county, and find them neat
ly and correctly kept. We find the
court house and'jail needing re
pairs as follows : The jail needs
glass in the lower windows. The
court house flooring in the east end
ol the hall is broken in, and one
of tho sleepers entirely given way,
and others are more or less decay
ed, and we think for want of prop
er ventilation. We find also one
of the window blinds broken off

in the different rooms broken Out,

Many farmers are buying corn
and all of them are complaining
of the high priou being dunged for
it. Bid liny of our farming friends
ever think that they could bo gel-

they had only raised it ? Suppose
they try it this year and

cotton.
Senator Jonas says, from
rough calculation made by bim

of being submerged along the lower
Mississippi produced in 1880 u
total of 750,003 bales of cotton

over double the sum asked by
friends for the construction of a

PUBLIC SCHOOLS.
We find .that during the scholas
tic year, 1881, there were thirty-
five schools taught. There were
for white childrc i 11, colored 24.
There were in attendance, white
1 children 221, colored 927, making
a total of 1148. The teachers were
paid for the year 1880 eighty-eight
per cent of their account. The
Board of Education lias ordered
paid for the year 18S1, to date, 70
per cent of their accounts, and will
be nble probably to pay 5 or 0 per
cent, moro on accounts of 1881.
RETAIL I.tQLOU LICENSE.
Feeling that the retail of liquor
in the County is a great evil, wc
would respectfully request the Or
dinary not to issue any further li
cense tor the same. And it having
been brought la the attention of
this body, that tho Ordinary lias
issued retail liquor license to
Bookur A Cowart without having
the signatures of two-thirds of the
free holders within three miles, rec
ommending it, wo would recom
mend to the Ordinary that lie
issue against Booker A Cowart a
rule nisi requiring them to show
cause at his next term of the
Court, why said license should not
lie revoked. In this connection it
is proper for us to say that the li-
cense was issued by the Clerk of
Ordinary, and that the deputy
acted in good faith, believing that
lie had the requisite two.thirds.
