Cotton seed Olii
. it all bo trite that is now pub
lished authoritatively as to the
great value of cottonseed oil,coup
led with the equally authoritative
statements that the seed, alter the
oil is extracted, becomes more val
uable, both as a fertilizer and as
food for stock, we are prepared to
modify, if not entirely withdraw
our objections to the shipment of
cotton seeds from the farms, so
frequently expressed in these col
umns during the past fall and win
ter. We are told by gentlemen of
great respectability and the high
est authority in such matters, that
out oY 3,000,000 tons of cotton
seed, the product of the last crop,
only about 180,000 tons were work
ed up, that 98,000 gallons of oil,
worth in crude state $39,200,000,
or in refined state, $02,700,000,
were buried und wnsted. It is said
the oil makes the seed too rich for
food and retards decomposition
and assimilntion ns a fertilizer. A
ton of the meal after the oil is tnk-
, «» out, is worth $18.00, or nearly
twice us much us a ton of seed.
The hull of the seed is used for In-
I el at the mills, and the ashes from
I these hulls are worth $25.00 a ton
for fertilizing uses. If the whole
crop of cotton seed wa- worked
through the oil mills it would add
over $0,000,000 to the value of the
crop. These are startling figures,
but no doubt clearly within the
bounds of truth. And in addition |
I to the above amount, the land
I would not lie deprived of one
pound of fertilizororthe eattleand
sheep of one pound of food. This
discovery may pay us for our
slaves in purl.— Union und Itecor-
tier.

For the delicate and complicat

Or. Hurler’s Iron Tonie.
This medicinal preparation is
one out ofu thousand oftlie patent
kind placed before the public which
has what it claims, “intrinsic mer
its,” nnd does afford relief in dis
eases like dyspepsia, general deliil-1
itv, mid many kinds of disorders
peculiar to females. It Inis receiv
ed the endorsements of hundreds
of people of good stnnding through
out the country, nnd should it
sometimes fall to etieet a cure, it
may he taken without dcleterous
result. It lias become a staple
medicine with druggists. One or
two bottles, used in season, may
save a heavy bill from the family
physician.
